Recapping Dan Salvato's Anime Expo Panel (A🧵) (Disclaimer: when entering the room we were directed that no video or audio recording was allowed, so this is based off of the notes I took while listening. Therefore there may be slight inaccuracies and I'll be happy to answer follow-up or clarifying questions.)

Natsuki- Dan then brought up Natsuki and again said "best girl," to slightly louder cheers. Dan then explained how similar to Sayori he started with the trope of a typical tsundere, but as he wrote about her he found that this was her way of wanting to assert herself and be taken seriously by others. She identified herself as a strong person who loved cute things, and wanted to be appreciated for that identity, and was upset when people treated that part of her identity as childish. Dan learned as he wrote her that the disconnect of how she identified with how people saw her lead to a vulnerability that was affecting her, especially as before the Literature Club she didn't have anyone who cared about her or her interests.

Yuri- Yuri shows up on the screen to Dan's comment again of "best girl." Yuri started as the intellectual member of the group, but also someone who loves to talk about her special interests but worries that she lets herself get out of control. Yuri is the club member that feels the most comfortable being herself. Unlike Natsuki she doesn't worry about others challenging her. She does however admire Natsuki because she is strong in standing up for her beliefs and identity, while Natsuki admires Yuri for being so self confident. Dan commented that they are incredibly complementary characters, and quipped "they should just kiss already."
