According to a new report by @waOSPI the amount of state funding going to our K-12 public schools has *declined* since 2020. The data is clear: #waleg is deliberately underfunding our public schools. #toolbar=0&navpanes=0" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">app.leg.wa.gov/committeesched…

Public education in Washington State is in a financial crisis, facing huge cuts and even school closures -- all because #waleg won't step up and tax the rich to fund them. It's time for that to change. Send a message to your legislators today! actionnetwork.org/letters/save-p…

We're glad the Seattle Times took a look at education funding but, likely through no fault of the reporters, the headline doesn't match the article. And the article doesn't provide a full picture as to why our schools face budget cuts. seattletimes.com/education-lab/…

My district is looking at over $30M in local levy funds paying for SPED costs that neither the state nor the feds will cover. #waleg

The result of the steady cut to regionalization, as well as the McCleary fix as a whole, is to pit teacher salaries against music classes, special education against smaller class sizes. #waleg is deliberately forcing budget cuts and has shown little interest in fixing it.

The regionalization factor was always a crock. It set adjoining districts up to fail, & there was never a good cohesive plan as to who got the larger regionalization percentage & erroneous assumptions undergirding all of it. #waleg

The Times article also mentions teacher salaries, but does not fully explain what's going on here. The "regionalization" factor is being steadily cut by #waleg year after year - leaving districts with less $ to pay its teachers. cascadiadaily.com/news/2023/may/…

For a more complete and accurate explanation of the school district budget crisis, take a look at our recent report showing how the 2017 McCleary fix was designed to fail: paramountduty.org/designed-to-fa…

600 people have sent letters to #waleg since last week urging them to stop cuts at our public schools. More than 1000 people wrote in March, and 400 in February. The session ends on Sunday and budgets are still being negotiated. Will you add your voice? actionnetwork.org/letters/save-p…
