W.A. Perry Middle School proudly celebrated the induction of our National Junior Honor Society, National Beta Club, and Student Council scholars. This meaningful ceremony reflected our commitment to excellence, leadership, and service. A special thank you to Mrs. Camelia Brown, Advisor, Dr. Bernadette Darby, Co-Advisor, Ms. Jameka Young, and our dedicated staff for their leadership in making this program a success. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Mrs. Mary McClellan, proud alumna and member of the first 7th-grade class at W.A. Perry, for delivering a powerful and inspiring message. Our CAP Program provided powerful career exploration opportunities for our scholars! Guest speakers from Heyward Career Center inspired our 8th graders, RSD1 Engineering engaged our 7th graders, and our 6th graders explored cosmetology and hygiene care careers. Exposing students to real-world pathways helps them begin envisioning their future success. #WinTogether

The Connections Mentoring Initiative, under the direction of Coach Ivan Carter, treated students to a day of fun, food, bowling, and bonding at Beltline Lanes. Students worked in teams to learn bowling strategies and compete for the highest score. Along the way, they strengthened leadership, teamwork, strategic planning, conflict resolution, and positive social engagement skills. #WinTogether

Thank you to our outstanding Math Department for organizing an engaging Family Math Night! We also appreciate our students and parents for showing up, participating, and joining in the fun. We celebrated STEAM Day with a hands-on challenge during homeroom! Students explored wearable light-up technology and assembled their own LED bracelets. It was a great opportunity to combine creativity, engineering, and design while learning how simple circuits power everyday technology.

W.A. Perry’s Project LIT Book Club hosted a powerful discussion inspired by Stamped from the Beginning. Thank you to Senator Tameika Isaac Devine (SC State Senator, District 19), Dr. Bobby Donaldson, Associate Professor of History and Director of the Center for Civil Rights History and Research at USC, and Dr. Frank Gause, Clinical Faculty in the Middle Level Education Program for Social Studies and Site Coordinator for the Call Me MiSTER Program at Coastal Carolina University, for engaging staff and students in meaningful discussion about history, equity, how history shapes today’s realities and why courageous conversations matter.
