Cabinet Secretary Ministry for Water Sanitation Eng. Eric Mugaa @mugaa_eric today at his office in Maji House, Nairobi, hosted Dr. (Geol.) Okoth Owuor, Project Coordinator for the Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience (HoAGW4R) Programme. The Project coodinator (HoAGW4R) provided an update on the project’s progress in Turkana, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa Counties. Construction works for Batch I sites are ongoing in Turkana, Marsabit, and Wajir Counties, site handover is being finalized in Mandera County, and advertisement for works in Garissa County will be done soon. Procurement of exploratory boreholes by the Water Resources Authority (WRA) is in progress, and the Ministry has received inception reports for the Groundwater strategy, guidelines and regulations, as well as the Transboundary Water Policy. The project is expected to provide sustainable water access to over 700,000 people in these drought-prone counties with access to clean and safe water, while enhancing sustainable groundwater management and building resilience against climate change. CS @mugaa_eric also hosted Mr. Job Chirchir, Chairman of the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB), and Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr. Richard Cheruiyot. We discussed WASREB’s core mandate, the challenges facing the Board, and strategies to improve service delivery in the water sector. WASREB remains a key regulator, working to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and equity in water and sanitation services in line with the human right to water and sanitation.

Stakeholders agreed to support the proposed tariff to enable the company to meet its costs of operations and improve service delivery. #waterservicesforall

The public consultation on the proposed tariff for Bomet Water and Sanitation Company Ltd (BOMWASCO) and the Itare Bulk Water System was held in Bomet and attended by representatives from WASREB, LVSWWDA, local leaders, consumers and other stakeholders.

KEWASCO cited rising operational costs and the need to sustain service delivery in proposing a tariff review. Discussions focused on affordability, reliability, efficiency & consumer impact. Stakeholders expressed support, noting the adjustments will enhance service delivery.

Public consultation on the KEWASCO license & tariff and the Itare Bulk Water System was held at Kapcheptoror Water Treatment Grounds. Stakeholders—including WASREB, County Govt of Kericho, MCAs, LVSWWDA, KEWASCO, local leaders & customers—engaged on the proposed application.
