The Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) plays a key role in protecting consumer interests and rights in Kenya’s water and sanitation sector, while ensuring water service providers (WSPs) remain financially sustainable and deliver efficient, affordable, equitable, and sustainable services. Today, I received a courtesy call from Mr. Richard Cheruiyot, Acting Chief Executive Officer of WASREB, at my office in Maji House, Nairobi. We discussed WASREB’s core mandate of consumer protection and its responsibility to promote cost recovery through appropriate, cost-reflective tariffs.
