The locals might consider Soft-plumaged Petrels "chooks" but they will always be a massive favourite of mine. Some enormous counts this winter from Cape Naturaliste, Western Australia (1180 / 80 / 600 / 700 on the 17th, 18th, 28th, and 29th June). Old pelagic images attached.

New paper by Andrew Black et al shows that Rufous (Pilbara) Grasswren Amytornis whitei comprises all ex-Striated forms west of the Eyrean Barrier, including 2 new ssp at Cape Range and Eyre Peninsula bioone.org/journals/Bulle…

Incredible seabirding in southwest WA this week. Exhibit #2: Woodman Point in Perth yielded a Blue Petrel and a magnificent adult Grey-headed Albatross, which proceeded to hang around the nearby boat harbour for last 2 days macaulaylibrary.org/asset/163708331

A pratincole present at Herdsman Lake since at least 25 Jan has been identified as Australia’s first COLLARED PRATINCOLE. Also photo’d at Point Walter 22 Jan but is a different bird from the Oriental seen at Alfred Cove in Dec #mega
