Afsaneh Zandabadi: Groomed, Abused, Executed
She was 22 when she was executed in Tabriz Central Prison on drug-related charges.
Throughout the proceedings, she said her stepfather had raped, threatened, abused and groomed her from childhood to carry drugs.
He faced no legal consequences.

🔴The Islamic Republic has increasingly weaponized the death penalty against protesters and political prisoners – not to deliver justice, but to punish dissent and instill fear.
🔸The cases of Hassan and Hossein Amiri, Benyamin Naghdi, and Arman Ma'refati reflect a disturbing pattern. Facing execution on politically charged accusations, these men come from some of Iran's most vulnerable communities: orphaned brothers raised in state welfare institutions, a young protester swept up in a crackdown, and a laborer and father denied meaningful access to legal representation.
🔸Their cases are a reminder that the death penalty in Iran is not applied in a vacuum. It is often wielded against those least able to defend themselves, while serving as a warning to society of the consequences of dissent.

#urgent: The Islamic Republic executed another protester early this morning. According to the Mizan News Agency, Abbas Akbari Feyzabadi was described as one of the “armed leaders of the riots” in Isfahan and was sentenced to death on charges including “moharebeh” (enmity against God), “intentional destruction of public property with the aim of confronting the Islamic Republic,” “disrupting public order and security,” and “assembly and collusion against national security.” Like many similar cases, this death sentence was issued following proceedings that fell far short of fair trial standards and without access to a lawyer of his own choosing. Since 18 March, the Islamic Republic has executed at least 38 people on security-related charges, 15 of whom were protesters arrested in relation with the January protests. We reiterate once again that the primary purpose of these executions is to instill fear in society and prevent future protests. Due to its incompetence and lack of public legitimacy, the Islamic Republic relies on repression and intimidation to maintain power, and the death penalty remains its most important tool for spreading fear. Unfortunately, in the shadow of war, the political cost of executing protesters has been significantly reduced for the authorities, and over the past two months these executions have effectively carried no serious political consequences for the Islamic Republic. Unless the political cost of executions increases, we are likely to witness the continuation, and even escalation of daily executions in the weeks and months ahead. The international community, especially European governments, must strongly condemn these executions. An immediate halt to the issuance and implementation of death sentences must be a central condition in any negotiation or agreement with the Islamic Republic. #NoDeathPenalty #AbbasAkbariFeyzabadi

The Islamic Republic executed another protester early this morning.

With his execution, the number of people executed in political or security-related cases since 18 March has reached at least 35. Fifteen of them were protesters arrested in connection with the January protests.
These executions are meant to instill fear and prevent future protests. The international community must strongly condemn them.

Gholamreza Khani Shekarab was executed on alleged charges of intelligence cooperation and espionage for Israel.
State media reported his execution on 26 May 2026 without specifying the location. IHRNGO has established that he was hanged in Ghezelhesar Prison.
IHRNGO had warned of his imminent execution after his transfer from Evin to Ghezelhesar.
At least 12 people have been executed on espionage-related charges in Iran so far in 2026.

🔴The Islamic Republic’s judiciary announced that the death sentence of Gholamreza Khani Shokrab, a prisoner accused of espionage and intelligence activities on behalf of Israel, has been carried out following confirmation by the Supreme Court.
🔸According to claims made by the judiciary, Gholamreza Khani Shokrab acted as "one of Mossad's operational network leaders abroad," playing a role in recruiting individuals inside Iran and deploying them for "anti-security operations." The institution claimed that he established contact with and was subsequently recruited by the Mossad intelligence service through his athletic activities and numerous travels to neighboring countries.
🔸Official reports state that "#GholamrezaKhaniShokrab was tasked with identifying other individuals inside the country and, upon approval from Mossad officers, recruiting them for various missions." A day prior to the execution, Fars News Agency had reported on his death sentence, stating that the verdict was issued following court proceedings and the presentation of evidence.
🔸However, no independent details regarding the judicial process, the evidence in the case file, Gholamreza Khani Shokrab’s access to legal counsel, or the location of the execution have been made public.
