Personally hate field turf, but understand its necessity. Why do I dislike? Makes lazy baseball fielders. Bad habits don’t get exposed. It’s exponentially easier to field on plastic than natural. So as a baseball purest, I think it cheapens the product. But it certainly makes everything else easier also. Field prep … gone. Dragging, raking, draining water …. Gone. Most rain outs … gone. Way less time for BP post prep. So yes, it’s essential, especially in bad weather areas.

Something to consider. You get one time in your life to be a HS baseball player.... give it your all, you will not regret it. Promise. What you will regret (one day) is not giving your best when you had the chance to. You can be a frat boy any day. You can surf any day, you can play golf or tennis or pickle ball any day. You only get one time to be the best HS baseball player you can be!
Next Level Baseball@nextlevelbb

So many players are preparing to be better frat boys than competitive baseball players and don't even know it. So many believe they should be able to do what they want, when they want, how they want and are allergic to hard work, sacrifice and commitment. It's what their parents have taught them.

Winning a state championship is a relentless body of work over the course of 4 months of games. Georgia is 30 regular season games and best of 3 every round of playoffs. It’s overcoming adversity, injuries, tough losses. Bus rides, late night home, still getting schoolwork done…. Much of the work in top programs is done through the offseason. Weight room, skill development sessions, etc. The level of competition is often crazy good. In 2017, we faced 18 - D1 commitments on the pitchers mound alone. I know not every school (in every state) is in this boat…. Yet it’s still apples to apples in that state. But winning a state title with your school mates is the most amazing things to ever experience. And the local community is behind it all. Every part of it is amazing!

Thank you Taber. We have a lot of work left to do this year, next year, and so on. We are on a journey to build a championship program that can play with anyone! Not there yet, but getting closer. All Glory to God.

Proud son wanting to share a quick word on my Dad! His Wilmington Christian Academy baseball program (small private Christian school with no scholarships) is off to an 18-5 start to their season with a 4-1 record vs. large public schools and a season sweep over Whiteville. Also playing the top teams in GA, SC, and VA to show strength of schedule. His Patriots look to carry their momentum down the home stretch of the season to hopefully another state championship, and more earned respect amongst their foes. Not long ago, people would have laughed at you if you said that paragraph about WCA Baseball and said “what if?” - just as much credit goes to his players and his assistant coaches as they have all collectively bought into playing baseball the right way and the winning way, that can work at any level! None of it is possible without the players and his amazing assistants on the baseball coaching staff at WCA. Just named the Coastal Preps Mid Season Coach of the Year, I’m very proud to see my father continue to chase his passion of building high level high school baseball programs, a passion he’s had since he finished playing professionally for the Braves. Time tested, time proven. Keep it going, Dad, more work to do! Love you!

Can’t believe how many in the comments of the tweet below feel this is not important. Crazy! Hustle does not mean a full sprint. It means “energy.” The same crew probably feels it’s ok for OF to take a knee or sit down in OF during a pitching change. Lol. For heaven sake… play the game… all parts… with energy. It matters… if you don’t agree… kick rocks…

Watching a HS game on Gamechanger and every infielder just walked out onto the field. Literally walked. Absolutely insane to me. How do you let this happen as a coach, parent, or teammate? Disgusting... Hustle is the easiest thing to do as a player and will set you a part from everyone else. Run on and off the field.

Trot Nixon said it in high school: "My goal is to be the best hitter to ever walk the face of the earth." Most people would never say that out loud. The fear of being judged for wanting too much keeps the goal small and the life smaller. He wasn't afraid. He didn't wear it on a shirt. But it lived in every rep. And in 2004, he was in right field when the Red Sox reversed the curse. Here's the lesson: Clarity of ambition isn't arrogance. It's direction. You can't hit a target you're too afraid to name. That's discipline. Not motivation. Motivation is a feeling. Discipline is an identity. @CoachMongero

“One of the most important skills for an athlete is learning how to work when you don’t feel like it.” Motivation is exciting. Discipline is boring. But only one of them shows up on the days that decide your career. Stop asking, “How do I get motivated?” Start asking, “How do I get disciplined when I’m not motivated?” Episode 105 with @CoachMongero is live on The Playbook with Colin Jonov

The athletes who collapse under pressure weren't undertrained. They were over-optimized for perfect conditions. @CoachMongero breaks down why training in chaos beats training harder—and how to build anti-fragile performance. Tomorrow... Episode 105 on The Playbook with Colin Jonov 🎙️
