THE WOMAN’S CLUB of HOLLYWOOD Celebrates female stars of Hollywood’s Golden Era born in early April: JANE POWELL, DEBBIE REYNOLDS, DORIS DAY, BETTE DAVIS, BILLIE HOLIDAY, MARY PICKFORD, and ANN MILLER. MARY PICKFORD was very involved with the WOMAN’S CLUB early years.

Hollywood founder Diaeda Wilcox donated the land on Hollywood Blvd and Ivar Avenue, where the library stands today as the Frances Goldwyn Library. Dale Carnegie donated $10,000 to build the library, which the club members ran until they donated the library to the City of L.A.

On APRIL 15TH, 1905, 14 women met in a private home and decided to launch THE WOMAN’S CLUB OF HOLLYWOOD in order to build Hollywood its first library. #hollywoodhistory #onthisday #womansclubofhollywood
