Participants observed native trees such as black varnish and dhoopa in red flush, along with several local fruit-bearing species. The walk encouraged closer observation of the landscape and created space to share traditional knowledge about trees with younger generations. (2/2)

#WildWednesday Did you know? The Short-toed Snake Eagle gets up to 90% of its diet from snakes. With sharp vision, scale-like leg shields, & the ability to hover while scanning for prey, it’s perfectly adapted to India’s open grasslands and scrublands. Illustration: Rucha Bhave

Meet this week’s #SpeciesOfTheWeek: the Red-whiskered bulbul (Pycnonotus jocosus). Recognisable by its black crest, white cheek patch, and bright red “whisker,” this lively songbird fills gardens and parks with its clear calls. Art: Navin V Kadam #RedWhiskeredBulbul #BirdsOfIndia

Today is Forest Owlet Conservation Day! 🌿🦉 Once thought extinct for over a century, the Forest Owlet (Athene blewitti) was rediscovered in 1997 and now survives in small pockets across Central India and the northern Western Ghats. #ForestOwletConservationDay #WCSIndia (1/2)

Did you know? The Mottled Wood #Owl’s eerie call sounds like a human wail—so much that it’s inspired ghost stories across rural India! 👻🦉 With red-rimmed dark eyes and mottled feathers, this elusive night dweller blends perfectly into India’s dry forests. #WildWednesday
