4B students learned how to amplify their voices using persuasion during their writing unit. Then, they had some fun putting their skills to use in a class debate. They presented strong reasons to support their arguments about why people should or should not eat candy!

Today, Kinders listened to Two Homes. This book served as a mirror for some of the kids (reflecting back what they see in their own life) and was a window for others (to learn about others' experiences). We learned that sometimes kids have 2 homes but each one is filled with 💙.

3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are enjoying the graphic novel, Stuntboy, by Jason Reynolds. They spent some time thinking about characters last week as the protagonist's superpower was revealed. Then, they imagined what superpower THEY would have if they were a superhero. #GRA2022

When I didn’t think Principal Appreciation couldn’t get any better @BurleySchool, today happened. Every class/every student wrote personal mssgs of ❤️& appreciation displaying them on fence for community. I read every single mssg. They’re all so personal & real. Wow! #joyofburley

Writing simple sentences is one easy way to help your kindergartner gain confidence in their abilities. Watch your child’s independence grow as he listens for and writes sounds in words. Focusing on just a couple of letters at a time provides just the right amount of challenge.

There are some new books for January in our Bitmoji Classroom. Martin's Big Words: The Story of Martin Luther King, Jr. is one of our favorites. We think you'll love it as much as we do. #happyreading #growingreaders #Geneva304
