#Wildflowers grow in profusion in our woods, especially primroses. We know how important these delicate flowers are. The circular green pin holds yellow stamens filled with nectar, and they act as pollinators for butterflies, especially the tortoiseshells, and early spring bees.

Today we're celebrating #WorldSoilDay! One great bonus to keeping grass-fed dairy herds is that they help maintain a healthy ecosystem. They (and the visiting sheep) reenergise the soil and boost its nutrient content, and the grass pastures trap atmospheric carbon dioxide.

As winter draws in, wooly weeders are welcomed to the farm for a short while to graze the fields. Their work is highly valued as they enhance the quality of the grass. When the cows are turned out in Spring, they come into fields with young, fresh grass bursting with goodness!

Work on the farm isn't all cows, fields and tractors... Here's our chief engineer, Nick Bryne, doing some repair work on the Yorkshire boarding on one of the barns. Well, maybe it is all about the cows, as this will make sure they're warm and dry this winter! #somersetfarming

Here on Maryland Farm, just near the village of #Cheddar, our climate is mild, with lots of soft rain. Combined with fertile soil, this ensures lush grass, which is perfect for our cows. Our cows eat only pulses, wheat, barley, sunflower seeds, rapeseed, and our delectable grass!
