It's not just that he said it, it's that it never once entered his mind not to. He's actually pleased with himself. While this is an old man, meaning other factors at play, it's similar to the entitlement and lack of self awareness that has come to define the toxicity in hockey.

A great journalism lesson: If you are trying to get good answers from someone in an interview, one of the worst ways to do it is long-ass questions designed to make you (the interviewer) feel or look smart.
