Apparently this is a hot take, but you haven't actually read a book unless you've read it cover to cover. Skimming select chapters, reading an AI summary of the book, or watching a YouTube video about it do not give you anywhere near the same grasp on the material as reading it.

I have never understood, and still do not understand, why people loathe Jordan Peterson. For me, he is the most compelling philosopher of the 21st century. His ideas have reshaped how the modern man, particularly in the West, sees himself. And this is not even limited to the West. Any sensible young man can recognize the value in his thinking; lessons that, if practiced as he presents them, have the power to turn one’s life around.

@WRITINGFORGOD13 @SRCHicks It's been awhile since I have read Mead, but I'm not sure that Kant is as disembodied as he is interpreted to be, due to the fact that he was fairly clear in stipulating that all knowledge falls within the bounds of possible experience. I recall favoring Mead.

@bloggerwog @SRCHicks It's not because Kant is also disembodied and acknowledges pure reason, unlike lakoff, whose constructivism is about the interaction between the mind, the body, and reality. (To note, Lakoff doesn't reject innate capacities at all, but they are not symbolic to him.)

@WRITINGFORGOD13 @SRCHicks Why do you think this is not Kantian Constructivism? If we cannot deduce our way out of the problem, we are constrained to Kantian Constructivism. No? This, however, does leave open the possibility of another form of inference that is not constructivism.

@bloggerwog @SRCHicks It's not a form of Kantian constructivism, but it is surely a kind of constructivisim. However, although it doesn't align with absolute truth, it aligns with objective truth through convergence. This is what makes Lakoff's work to be very favored in neuroscience, unlike Chomsky.

@WRITINGFORGOD13 @SRCHicks "...he is a realist that acknowledges truth (but as constructed understanding rather than certain)." Isn't this another form of Kantian Constructivism? Hulē, to me, resembles the thought of Jacob Klein. A type of constraint on the subject/object universe of discourse.

@WRITINGFORGOD13 @SRCHicks I have misspoken. I am familiar with Lakoff's "Metaphors we live by," but fell out with the discourse about the same time I stoped reading Chomsky.

@bloggerwog @SRCHicks It also seems to me that it follows that illusions aren't lies but a different level of reality that cloaks the objective world when perception is laden by the unconscious, so illusions can be thought of as useful mechanisms of the body that uncovers valuable knowledge.

@bloggerwog @SRCHicks Therefore, he does value the body as an essential participant in meaning construction along with the mind and the world. Radial assertion is less platonic than Aristotle's Hule. Lakoff's cognition is also very inclusive, so a cog ling can use Cartesian theories in some contexts.

@bloggerwog @SRCHicks Also, if the body is inferior (ex. Competence/performance by Chomsky), and metaphor uses the body, why would it be pervasive?? Lakoff also disagrees with Aristotle in that Aristotle categorizes classically with sufficient and necessary conditions rather than radially.

@bloggerwog @SRCHicks You can find metaphor everywhere even in very technical books. Without metaphor, abstract concepts cannot be understood. So, back to the philosophical grounding, Lakoff is grounded in experientialism and empiricism.
