It was 1,050 days ago, on a dark New Zealand night. The Women’s Rugby World Cup 2021 final. A strong England side was up against hosts New Zealand in front of a sold out record-breaking crowd. It was that night that Ellie Kildunne announced herself on the global stage by scoring the first points of the night, Amy Cokayne scored a hat-trick. But the power of the Black Ferns and that Eden Park roar broke English hearts in dramatic fashion. Three years of graft followed. Three Women’s Six Nations titles. Two WXV 1 series wins. 32 straight wins before heading into the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 final. England looked imperious. Unstoppable Untouchable. Unbeatable. But, they came up against Canada. A side who, one week prior, knocked out reigning Women’s Rugby World Cup Champions New Zealand. A result many didn’t see coming. But for Canada, this was all part of the plan. To stun many and take the crown. It wasn’t part of England’s script. A Women’s Rugby World Cup final on home turf. 81,885 people filled Allianz Stadium in London. Nearly double the number of people who watched on three years ago at Eden Park. Canada’s Asia Hogan-Rochester struck first in the opening five minutes. The crowd gasped, but not Ellie Kildunne. She had been in this position before. A Women’s Rugby World Cup crown was at stake and this one was for England. What followed was a breathtaking display with points from Amy Cokayne, Alex Matthews and Abbie Ward. Who could forget the trust in Zoe Harrison’s right boot. Brave Canada never stopped believing. This day, though, belonged to the Red Roses. At their home, their patch. Hollie Davidson blew the whistle at 80 minutes. Canada 13, England 33. The storied 32 women became Women’s Rugby World Cup Champions. The world saw the six tournament matches it took for them to gain that esteemed title. What they didn’t see? Heartbreak. Pressure. Doubt. 1,050 days of dreaming. The hard work? It was all worth it. Children were inspired. Adults were amazed. History was written. For those 32 players and wider Red Roses team? The job was done. England are Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 Champions! 🌹 #RWC2025 | #CANvENG | #RWC2025Final

Sometimes in sport we are lucky enough to witness players who define a generation. This is Jonah Lomu. This is Portia Woodman-Wickliffe. This is New Zealand Rugby. #RWC2025 | #RWCBTS | @BlackFerns | @AllBlacks
