Meet Shafkat Bin Jafar, a CEE PhD student who was recently selected for a prestigious Graduate Research Award with the Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP)! 💯👏🥳 The proposed research, "Study of Foamed Glass Aggregate (FGA) for Rapid Airfield Pavement and Structure Construction," investigates the performance of novel material FGA for rapid airfield pavement construction, inspired by its success in the quick reopening of collapsed section I-95. The goal is to ensure the safe, efficient application of FGA in airfield projects, addressing challenges and reducing risks associated with its use. Meet CEE's new interim chair, Dr. Antonio Carraro (and help us give him a warm welcome)! 👏 Dr. Carraro’s research uncovers how soils and recycled materials can be used to design and build safe and sound engineering infrastructure (our homes, roads, etc.). His academic experience and past appointments span from Brazil, United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom. He is Associate Editor of the ASCE Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering and is interested in music, border collies, and clay spoons (as well as in all features of neurodiversity that bring together all of these fascinating aspects of our world). 🎸🐶 #wsucivilengineering #civilengineering #voilandcollegeofengineeringandarchitecture
