State leaders continue to raise awareness of veterans' needs, and West Virginia is helping carry that message forward. HCR 30 has been introduced in the West Virginia Legislature, urging Congress to pass the Major Richard Star Act and help ensure veterans receive the benefits they have earned. Thank you to Delegate Rick Hillenbrand for sponsoring this resolution, and to the many legislators who joined as co-sponsors in support of this effort. Actions like this help keep veterans' needs front and center at every level of government. #MajorRichardStarAct

As we continue to amplify state action in support of veterans, Washington is stepping forward. In Olympia, HJM 4012 has been introduced, urging Congress to pass the Major Richard Star Act and help ensure veterans receive the benefits they’ve earned. Thank you to Rep. Joshua Penner (@theJoShPENNER) for sponsoring the resolution and to the many legislators who have joined as co-sponsors in support of this effort. Too many veterans are still waiting for the full benefits they have earned through their service. #MajorRichardStarAct

March is National Brain Injury Awareness Month. Today, @WWP hosted a Capitol Hill Lunch & Learn on traumatic brain injuries (TBI), with our Policy and Independence Program teams briefing congressional staff on the impact of TBI and legislation to better support affected veterans. Thanks to the @HouseVetAffairs for providing space for the event.

Veterans living with PTSD and other mental health conditions deserve timely access to high-quality, evidence-based care. During our recent Operation Advocacy Fly-In, warriors urged Congress to pass the Innovative Therapies Centers of Excellence Act to expand treatment options at VA. @WWP thanks @SenRubenGallego for sponsoring this legislation and @MilitaryTimes for highlighting its importance. military.com/daily-news/202…

Passage of the Major Richard Star Act means fairness to 54,000 veterans who are not receiving the benefits they have earned. We are grateful to @RepGusBilirakis for sponsoring H. 2102 in the House, members of the @HouseVetAffairs, and all other members of the House who have cosponsored this crucial legislation. #MajorRichardStarAct

Today at the joint House and Senate Committees on Veterans’ Affairs VSO hearing, @WWP CEO Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Walt Piatt highlighted three of WWP’s nine legislative priorities for the year—and the legislation needed to advance them: Honor the promise to those who served by passing the Major Richard Star Act this year. Veterans should not be denied access to the benefits they have earned. End veteran suicide by expanding research into innovative therapies that can save lives. Congress can help by passing the Innovative Therapies Centers of Excellence Act. End veteran homelessness by ensuring disability compensation never stands in the way of housing by passing the Housing Unhoused Disabled Veterans Act. Grateful for the opportunity to testify and to continue working with Congress on issues impacting veterans. The full written comments can be found here: woundedwarriorproject.org/media/dsrj5cnk…

9/ Warriors are the foundation of freedom. They have done and continue to do their part; now it is time to do ours. We must keep the promise and find every warrior, everywhere, and bring them home – mind, body, and soul.

8/ With the support of Congress and a grateful nation, Wounded Warrior Project will continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible—saving a million more lives, finding a cure for PTSD, ending veteran suicide, and ending veteran homelessness.

7/ Third, ending veteran homelessness. Nearly 52,000 veterans moved into permanent housing last year thanks to VA and community partners. Passing the Housing Unhoused Disabled Veterans Act will help ensure disability compensation never stands in the way of housing.

6/ Second, ending veteran suicide. In 2023, more than 6,000 veterans were lost. We must push forward evidence-based solutions like psychedelic-assisted therapies for PTSD, TBI, and substance use disorder—expanding research, increasing access to clinical trials, and ultimately making these treatments available to veterans who need them.

5/ During Operation Advocacy Fly-In we discussed three priorities: First, a call to do right by past, present, and future combat veterans by passing the Major Richard Star Act this year—so those medically retired due to combat-related injuries can finally receive the benefits they earned in blood.
