March is National Brain Injury Awareness Month. Today, @WWP hosted a Capitol Hill Lunch & Learn on traumatic brain injuries (TBI), with our Policy and Independence Program teams briefing congressional staff on the impact of TBI and legislation to better support affected veterans. Walt Piatt highlighted three of WWP’s nine legislative priorities for the year—and the legislation needed to advance them: Honor the promise to those who served by passing the Major Richard Star Act this year. Veterans should not be denied access to the benefits they have earned. End veteran suicide by expanding research into innovative therapies that can save lives. Congress can help by passing the Innovative Therapies Centers of Excellence Act. End veteran homelessness by ensuring disability compensation never stands in the way of housing by passing the Housing Unhoused Disabled Veterans Act. 9/ Warriors are the foundation of freedom. They have done and continue to do their part; now it is time to do ours. We must keep the promise and find every warrior, everywhere, and bring them home – mind, body, and soul.

8/ With the support of Congress and a grateful nation, Wounded Warrior Project will continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible—saving a million more lives, finding a cure for PTSD, ending veteran suicide, and ending veteran homelessness.

7/ Third, ending veteran homelessness. Nearly 52,000 veterans moved into permanent housing last year thanks to VA and community partners. Passing the Housing Unhoused Disabled Veterans Act will help ensure disability compensation never stands in the way of housing.

6/ Second, ending veteran suicide. In 2023, more than 6,000 veterans were lost. We must push forward evidence-based solutions like psychedelic-assisted therapies for PTSD, TBI, and substance use disorder—expanding research, increasing access to clinical trials, and ultimately making these treatments available to veterans who need them.

5/ During Operation Advocacy Fly-In we discussed three priorities: First, a call to do right by past, present, and future combat veterans by passing the Major Richard Star Act this year—so those medically retired due to combat-related injuries can finally receive the benefits they earned in blood.

4/ Last week, 125 warriors visited Capitol Hill, meeting with members of Congress to share their stories and the real-life impact of why Congressional support matters.
