Vast difference between a peaceful protest and looting cars and assaulting government agents Stretchin Gretchin, shouldn’t you be focused on the billions of dollars in fraud that was uncovered?
Governor Gretchen Whitmer@GovWhitmer

We are witnessing unacceptable violations of Americans’ safety, rights, and freedoms. No one should accept this.

The violence must stop.

Michiganders stand with Minnesotans as they exercise their First Amendment right to protest and make their voices heard peacefully.

I've slowed this down. In the huddle, one or more ICE officers shout 'GUN'. This caused another officer to draw his sidearm. Another officer removed the man's sidearm, and then walked away, but it was discharged negligently (see for yourself). The Sig P320 is notorious for NDing, but typically only when dropped. That then triggered the other agents to think that the man on the ground, Alex Pretti, had begun shooting, so they neutralised the perceived threat. If this is what happened, it's an incredibly unfortunate accident in Minneapolis.

It's entirely plausible that "gun, gun, gun" is yelled. One guy disarms him, the others don't know he's disarmed, and then dude reaches for the gun that isn't there as well. Also could be a cellphone is confused for a gun or something too. Who knows. But I am absolutely giving ICE the benefit of the doubt every time. Especially after a woman tried to run over an officer and the same people in my replies calling me whatever names are still defending her.

On the recent shooting. I have watched as many videos as I can find. Here are some thoughts (pls read all, not just one point): 1) There is a reason I was critical of politicians who encouraged bystanders to confront ICE agents. I correctly predicted it would lead to dangerous situations where people would get hurt. It’s not something responsible leaders should be doing. 2) Each incident must be judged individually. Each incident is also tragic because at least one life is lost and others will be affected for years to come. But the question for each case is whether lethal force was justified. Whether it was justified in this case is not related to whether it was justified in the previous cases. I personally believe, based on the evidence I have seen, that use of force was justified in the Renee Goode incident. There are people who disagree in good faith, but many seem to be deciding their view based exclusively on whether they support or oppose this administration’s enforcement efforts. That’s not productive. I am not as convinced in this case that lethal force was justified, but believe it will heavily rely on the surrounding evidence. The person who was shot was clearly interfering with ICE and detaining him would have been justified. But the key question becomes whether he was a threat at the time he was shot. He did have a gun, which alone does not make him a threat. But it did create a situation where force could be justified if officers think he is going for the gun as part of his effort to resist arrest/fight back or if he tried to grab one of their guns. However, some video seems to suggest he was disarmed before the shots were fired. Multiple agents were attempting to subdue him and he was definitely resisting, but whether he had access to a gun and posed a threat of using it becomes a key relevant fact. Of course the agent who fired may have mistakenly thought he still had it and was trying to reach for it. None of this is easy because it’s a dangerous situation where armed agents are making life/death calls in a chaotic environment. But they are also trained for that very reason. And they do not/should not have free rein to use lethal force based on a mistaken assumption. There should be a full investigation and it should be independent. In addition, adults need to step in and lower the temperature to stop the violence. ICE enforcement is absolutely necessary, but the strategies need to be rethought to avoid such confrontations. Local law enforcement has to start doing their jobs and local officials need to start working with the federal government if they want to avoid more chaos. Those encouraging others to confront ICE agents doing their jobs need to stop. Or more people will get hurt. We need adults to stay acting responsibly.
AG@AGHamilton29

This is absolutely not true. Simply possessing a firearm does not justify lethal of force. Someone has to signal they will use the weapon in a way that is a threat to law enforcement in order to justify such a use of force.

@WXRTHYONE @smithunleashed I'm not saying misfires never happen. What's more likely, the ICE agent missed the first shot or something that has at least less than a 1% chance of occurring happened
