@SpeciesFecesCo We are running a fecal DNA sampling project to look at gut microbiome of our local bats and those in captive care. Glad we aren't the only ones interested in poop 💩

While we often collect feces from piles, we sometimes collect them right from the source. We netted three bat species a few weeks back in an effort to collect feces. We also had a surprise capture, a Northern Saw-Whet Owl!

Many thanks to PC Lloyd from @WestYorksPolice going above and beyond during an incident to ensure this Pipistrelle was appropriately looked after. The guy is a little thin but after a much needed dinner break this PC Pip will be back to policing the skies in no time.

Is it a #baby bat? Maybe... Yes. It is pup season. Here's a handy guide to help you spot the difference as baby bats need urgent care. Call the @_BCT_ on 0345 1300 228 and make sure the bat is contained. @WYBATS bats.org.uk/advice/help-iv…

@TheBatBothy @_BCT_ (Dan here) I've recently put 4x post quarantine pups together and they're doing well as a group. It's been great to see them interact with one another.

@Hepcatblogs I'm sorry we didn't see your message sooner. If you find a grounded or injured bat the best bet is to call the BCT on 0345 1300 228 for advice and assistance. We done typically see tweets frequently enough to respond to emergency questions.

@WYBATS I discovered a bat this morning in my kitchen sink of all places! I do have a cat, so I'm not sure if she brought it in or it flew in itself. I thought it was dead as it was rather wet and not moving. I managed to get it in a container and then discovered it was alive..

@dickiewood @_BCT_ However there's a lot of bat detectors with videos on the NHBS website. The baton is on there as are many others. Be happy to hear what others may think.

@_BCT_ @WYBATS good evening all. I wonder if you could recommend a couple of bat detectors to me please. 1 for the enthusiastic amateur and 1 rather more 'high end' if you know what I mean. Budget/more but worth it. Thank you very much in advance 😀👍 🦇🦇🦇🦇

@dickiewood @_BCT_ The EMT pro is also a fairly budget option (around 200 Vs 80 of the Magenta) and features auto ID and works with a phone. As for professional tackle.... I've no experience so wouldn't want to suggest anything

@dickiewood @_BCT_ Hi, (Dan a bat carer here) - for the enthusiastic amateur the Magenta 5 is probably the best. It's a loud hetrodyne that helps learn what bats sound like. Has a backlit screen to show mhz to help with ID but keeps user focused on bats not phone screen.

We aren't at #pup season yet, but it is starting to warm and #bats may start to emerge. Some may be tired after a long winter and become grounded. People often mistake adults for babies due to the size and it being spring. Here's a quick easy guide.

Need help for this little bat. Tried the Bat Conservation Trust but theres nobody nearby. Vets are busy/closed. I've followed advice but need to take him somewhere soon as I think my cat may have caught him and that he is injured. #WYBATS
