If you’re serious about moving to the USA as a student or getting into graduate school with full funding, below are some very honest advice from me: 1. Target Fall applications. Spring & summer openings are very limited in funding. If you must apply for Spring/Summer openings, be sure there is funding. 2. You cannot make impromptu applications that are very competitive. Start early. 3. Your SOP should NEVER be generic. At least two paragraphs should focus on the department & how your interests relate to those of the professors there. Even if it's a single sentence, be sure to touch on all relevant information. 4. Your CV & SOP should be expertly formatted. It's not just about the content. It has to look good too. 5. Avoid plagiarism like a plague. 6. Don't plan to change the world on your SOP because you can't. Show that you want to contribute something. 7. Very importantly, reach out to professors. Tell them that this or that in their lab is what you have been really curious to study. Stop saying their research is interesting, tell them what and how it’s interesting! 8. Prepare all your application documents like your life depends on them. Don't take anything for granted. 9. If any optional material is among the application requirements, provide it if you are confident that it will do you good. If you’re not sure of the quality, don’t risk. 10. Pray.
