FUN FACT FRIDAY: Polk State Baseball's Corbeil has coached two sets of All-Conference brothers The longest tenured head coach at Polk State College, Al Corbeil is entering his 16th season with Polk State Baseball. During his tenure, Corbeil has coached numerous professional players, a few big-leaguers and more than 100 players who went on to continue their collegiate career. That includes two sets of brothers who earned All-Conference recognition. Last season, Wade Johnson led Polk State in wins and the FCSAA in saves as a sophomore to earn second-team All-Citrus Conference honors. More than a decade prior, his brother Brian Johnson was also an All-Conference pitcher for the Eagles. A member of Corbeil's first Polk State teams, the older Johnson was a two-time first-team All-Suncoast selection. As a sophomore in 2012, Johnson also earned All-FCSAA and FCSAA All-Tournament honors as Polk State won its first FCSAA title in 20 years. Brian Johnson would finish his collegiate career at Florida Southern College. The younger Johnson is also at the NCAA Division II level as a junior at Georgia Southwestern State College. Casey and Kaylor Kulina played two different positions but garnered first-team All-Suncoast Conference honors in consecutive years. In 2014, Casey Kulina was also recognized as FCSAA Pitcher of the Year and an NJCAA All-American. He would go on to play at Jacksonville University and ultimately, professional baseball. An infielder, Kaylor Kulina was a first-team All-Conference selection in 2015 before going on to play at the University of Pittsburgh and Millersville University. Following his professional career, Casey Kulina returned to Polk State to serve as pitching coach before moving on to the NCAA Division I ranks at the University of Delaware. He's now pitching coach at his other alma mater -- Jacksonville.

FUN FACT FRIDAY: Wade Johnson was first Polk State Baseball pitcher to lead team in wins and saves in six years Polk State Baseball came up short of the FCSAA Tournament for the first time in a full season since 2019 this past year. There were, however, several Eagles who had solid individual years. That included one at the back end of the bullpen. In 2025, sophomore pitcher Wade Johnson became the first Polk State player since Billy McKay in 2019 to lead the team in wins and saves. A second-team All-Citrus Conference selection, Johnson finished the season with a 5-7 record and 3.30 ERA with an FCSAA-leading six saves. In his second and final season at Polk State, Johnson ranked second on the team with 24 appearances and worked 43.2 innings. As is the case with each of Polk State's 10 sophomores, Johnson has signed to continue his playing career. He'll head to the Peach State to pitch for Georgia Southwestern State University, an NCAA Division II program.

Three Polk State Baseball players have been named All-Citrus Conference. Pitcher Jake Echols has been recognized as a first-team selection. Defensive Player of the Year Jordan Thomas, an outfielder, and pitcher Wade Johnson made the second team. polkeagles.com/news/2025/5/2/…

Jake Echols is a talented soph RHP at Polk State. He started & threw well vs Daytona St. today, working 4 innings w/ 1 ER, 1 BB & 4K. Three pitches for strikes. FB 86-89 CB: 75-77 CH: 81-82 4.05 ERA, 14 BB / 37 K in 40 IP as his strong season continues. 6’4/170 FSU commit.

Wade Johnson is a talented sophomore RHP at Polk State. He threw a couple innings vs Daytona State today. FB sat upper 80s / T91 BB 76-78 He’s been excellent out of the pen for them this season: 27 IP, 1.98 ERA, 11 BB and 23 K.
