Charlie Lake was a very good friend of mine. It was not uncommon for us to exchange stuff so it makes sense he would have had them. I gave him my last racing helmet 10 years ago
We took these pics a few years ago when i drove to visit him. He was battling Alzheimer’s bad but remembered me on this day and was able to recall all our travels together once i started the stories
He passed a few months after these pics. I miss my friend dearly 💯❤️

Just ran across this old picture a few mins ago. This is the first midget I designed and built in Wayne Simmons shop on Kent St in Knoxville Iowa late 1997
I was young, broke as fuck, and just wanted to make it as a racer. I guess driving wasn’t my forte. Traded the racing helmet for a welding helmet and made a career out of it somehow 🤷🏻♂️😂

The square "A-Frame" is where it bolts, and allows you to move it up and down for a belt mounting point. I am 100% sticking with no lower than 1" below the top of my shoulders. I drew belt bar in red.

I see tons down 7" or right at the seat holes. I always thought, 1" or less below the shoulder. We run @RaceMaxims sprint cars, and bolt a bar in.

Terry was one of those true old-school racers who always gave it all he had on track. And more times than not he found a way to contend for wins regardless of the equipment he was in. Sprint car, midget, and silver crown races in Illinois will now have a big piece missing
