@statesman austin should be what round rock resident demands! 🤦

A reader says expanding MoPac is needed because traffic in Austin will only get worse as the city continues to grow. | Opinion statesman.com/opinion/letter…
English

@DrBellinger right. build where services are vs encourage endless sprawl
English

@WalkableAustin Yeah, makes no sense. Density is the key to actual conservation and environmentalism.
English

when did “fighting the most sustainable forms of housing” become environmentalism? blocking infill doesn’t stop growth it just promotes sprawl
KUT Austin@KUT
Austin's goal is to build more places to live with access to bus lines and parks, all in an effort to address affordability. But some local environmental leaders said Austin has built so much — and so quickly — that it's lost what makes it beautiful. kut.org/austin/2026-05…
English

@seanmorseatx wild bc in the same breath they’ll fight infill housing and expansion of MoPac even though the highway expansion largely follows the ppl we priced out into sprawl. yet @KUT still hands them the mic 🤦
English

@WalkableAustin They just hate change and pine for their own youths. It’s nostalgia as policy.
English

@WalkableAustin asking because I am genuinely curious: how many 3 bdrm and larger units would be in this new proposed development?
English

AISD needs funding + students. Austin needs housing + tax base. Turning a former school site into hundreds of homes near jobs/transit should be a no-brainer
And yes, Council will likely spend the afternoon getting scolded for supporting it. Often, the hardest votes deliver the best outcomes

passed with all but one supporting staff’s recommendation 🙌

@MattTanner41 Racial covenants → outlawed → replaced by large minimum lots
For decades, that priced out more and more Austinites from “SF” areas
We only started reforming it ~80 years later
That’s the throughline. More work to do
English

@WalkableAustin Familiar logic?
Point to the current Austin neighborhood that hasn’t allowed African Americans in the last 25 years.
You brought this up, not me.
English

ah yes—“protected neighborhoods.”
we’ve seen this movie before

Chaya Tong@chaya_tong
HOME is back?! Austin could quietly expand controversial HOME zoning rules into previously protected neighborhoods — critics say it’s happening with little public input. My latest @statesman: statesman.com/news/local/art…
English

@MattTanner41 Old ad, familiar logic.
One can choose to protect exclusionary zoning. Others will work to fight it.
English

@WalkableAustin You’ve never seen that movie. That advertisement is from 1891. Quite literally your grandfather, and likely his father never saw it.
Do you have anything of substance or just this crap?
English

Multiple sources offered background that added context and it didn’t make the piece. That’s a miss, @statesman
English

@statesman lazy framing.
this is initiating a process—not adopting code
HOME was always phased, and no, the wealthiest areas were never meant to be exempt
English

Austin council to vote on measure that could expand zoning rules into protected neighborhoods. Critics say it is being advanced little public scrutiny. statesman.com/news/local/art…

@nickmlittlejohn @AndyBrownATX judge Brown has been an outspoken leader on connecting ATX to SA 🚊
English

@WalkableAustin Love that @AndyBrownATX is with us also on rerouting hazardous trains from downtown-we can then use that corridor for passengers 🚆
English

amazing how we spend billions carving highways through downtowns… just to subsidize growth in yesterday’s cow pastures
