@Walkman131 @TalkinStros @MaxFromQuebec PHM expanded in Dolby as well. Our Dolby in the city was best screen in the country to watch it. Regular 1.9 IMAX doesn’t have the size advantage here, so all they’ve got is the aspect ratio exclusivity contracts. 1.43 would be a game changer but IMAX isn’t expanding.

@JeeteshKenobi @TalkinStros @MaxFromQuebec I mean the cinerama at my city expanded the ratio for PHM. Like it just depends on the film and you gotta accept that. 1:90 isnt the same as IMAX 1:43:1 screen anyways so no matter what you kinda just gotta accept the aspect ratio lmao

@Walkman131 @TalkinStros @MaxFromQuebec Yeah I can get your perspective here in my country we don’t have any 1.43 IMAX screens and the biggest 1.9 one is 72ft wide. I’ve got a 75ft Dolby Cinema in my city though, if they get expanded AR with this branding, I ain’t complaining.

@Walkman131 @JeeteshKenobi @MaxFromQuebec IMAX is an incredibly strong brand, and while I have ZERO faith in Disney to do the right thing with this, letting consumers know about other PLF installs that are as good or better (Better, like Dolby Cinema) is a good thing for theaters and consumers alike.

@Walkman131 @MaxFromQuebec Most IMAX is not IMAX film. Most IMAX, both capture and display ends, is IMAX digital. The reason we can say IMAX isn’t a format is because you can’t define the specs. IMAX is a hodgepodge of a bunch of different systems, resolutions, aspect ratios, and mediums. Just a brand.

@Walkman131 @TalkinStros @MaxFromQuebec 1.43 is exclusive to IMAX. But that aspect ratio can be easily achieved with any digital cameras with open gates and planned in camera cropping. Those dual projectors are lent to IMAX by Barco, which are available in most auditoriums over the world anyway.
