We are in a climate emergency and a few gammons that are scared of colours on a map aren't going to tell me otherwise. 1976 this, 1976 that. Try picking up a textbook. Best, Staggy

Kew Gardens recording 35.1ºC today breaks its previous May record in 1922 before this spell by NEARLY 5ºC and breaks its June maximum temperature record set in 1976 by 0.5ºC - this also beats the previous May UK maximum record by OVER 2ºC (32.8ºC, 1922/44). An incredible anomaly

I’m part of alarm clock Britain . I get up at 6 including today . Worked 3 hours got £200 but I’d rather cut my nuts off with a spoon than vote reform . They voted against workers rights Labour brought in . Don’t be a turkey and vote against yourself .

If England can hit 35°C in May in 2026, imagine July 2036. The concerning part isn’t just the heat itself…it’s that little or no serious planning is being put in place for what’s coming. Cities, housing, schools, healthcare, infrastructure… all dangerously unprepared.
Peter Dynes@PGDynes

Large parts of the UK/France are forecast to be around 12°C above average. Places like London could reach 35°C with UHI and it’s still May. The UK Climate Committee has warned that 40°C summers are now on the horizon. The climate is changing faster than systems are prepared for.

"How can we make the weather scarier?" "Paint the maps red!" "Yeah, but we did that last year..." "OK then, BLACK! Paint the maps black AND red!" "Yeah, and dragons! We must have dragons!" "Can we have a skully and crossbones too?" "Hell yeah!" Let's ignore that we all had the heating on last week and were wearing winter clothing because it was freezing cold. Let's ignore that these temperatures were equalled in May 1944 and May 1922, when CO2 levels were lower than today. Let's ignore reality, paint the maps ever darker colours, and all panic about a few days of nice weather. Bonkers.

The UK just “smashed” its May temperature record… but here’s the part the Met Office conveniently leaves out: The PREVIOUS record was set in 1922. That’s 104 years ago. Long before SUVs, private jets, or modern CO₂ emissions. Heathrow Airport didn’t even exist yet. The area was literally farmland and small villages. So if a 1922 heatwave could produce nearly identical temperatures in a world with ~130 ppm less CO₂, maybe, just maybe, natural variability plays a much bigger role than the panic merchants admit.
Met Office@metoffice

Temperatures at Heathrow have recently reached 33.5°C, provisionally beating the all-time May record

After a day like this, only fools think burning fossil fuels for any longer than is necessary makes sense. The much derided Ed Miliband is right: his critics ultimately enemies of life on earth. news.sky.com/story/weather-…

@benhoobs So they should be, Climate change has always existed, it cannot be stopped which is the point, paying to try and stop something you have no control over is mental

@Hudsonweather The responses amaze me. I’m really at a loss why people can’t accept it. This is the most unnatural spring weather. Regardless of stats even, birds round here have gone today. Too hot. No idea how they are/will feed their young leaving nest. Evolution theory says it’s wrong!

EVERY weather station, both rural & urban, in Yorkshire & Lincolnshire, set a new May temperature record yesterday. Unprecedented. For the climate sceptics out there, the game is up. Go and bore someone else with your nonsense.

@Hudsonweather I'm a climate sceptic I'm cool that the world is warming. But I'm very sceptical that its something we should want to stop. What's the problem? Show us Use real data about real things that have really happened @Hudsonweather
