I guess it's time for a real pinned thread uwu We're the Planetes System: leftist gadabouts, mystical weirdos, and internet nuisances by trade. We drive horses, stream video games, play too much mahjong, and occasionally write about magic and philosophy.

@clockstiqqun There's literally two Song of Ice & Fire shows coming out on HBO right now. I'm not sure if we should call the premium cable take on Martin's world mature, but it sure ain't "for kids".

this isn't true, because that stuff does get made. the Malazans books are obscure and Brandon Sanderson is a household name because the empty, childish escapism is the selling point. kidults don't want mature storytelling. they don't even want good childrens' books

Dont mean to invalidate anyone but i still dont really understand why some trans people feel the need to so vocally cling to their AGAB and make it the focal point of conversations about other trans people

@TruthCuresLyme I'd say the response to this has been an embarrassment to the profession of medicine, and that's probably still somewhat true. But fact is this lady was already such an embarrassment they basically washed her out, and I have to say that's somewhat to their credit.

@TruthCuresLyme Learned this morning she quit real medicine so she could run a quack conversion therapy practice with less oversight so this is not really someone worth attempting to move the needle with. I only hope my contribution has made a few people feel a bit more seen.

Give it up, Nikki. You just got done telling her doctors with “terrible bedside manner” or who are “egotistical assholes” should be excused because they’re “human”. You know damn well she’s not talking about being rude for kicks, but about having to mask to satisfy your ego.

The last 24 hours has enlightened me about the way people think about their doctors. I'm truly floored, and deeply saddened by statements like this: "Patients have no responsibility to act in a particular way. Period."

We need a bag of dog food, some gas for the car, and like $180 for car insurance so I can keep up on doordash and hopefully pay a good portion of our rent for the month with it. We're trying to get through the next couple months until we get a new roommate in July.

As a public-facing professional, if you can't figure out how to communicate in good faith with all the vastly different people who are paying you enormous amounts of money to put your kids through private school, then you're not a professional
Jonathan@jabberwock951

I'm not gonna lie, it is frustrating when you ask a patient what's wrong and they just give you a diagnosis. Like "I have a chest infection". OK, you're probably right but I need to know your symptoms to see if I agree with that diagnosis. I can't just take your word for it.

Can a dr explain to me like I'm 5 why so many of you think someone clearly saying "patients shouldn't have to perform and be 'perfect patients' to get healthcare and we should be understood in our frustration" to mean "YOU MUST TO CARE FOR US EVEN IF WE BEAT THE FUCK OUTTA YOU!!"
Cordelia The Fool@WanderingChord

@notaproviderMD @MastcellMadness Patients have no responsibility to act in a particular way. Period. It's your responsibility to provide care to even the very frustrating. It's literally the entire job.

Do you notice how when patients are sharing bad experiences with doctors as a reaction there never is accountability or acknowledgement? It's always sth like "patients don't understand / are ignoring that... " This is literally proving the point of not being taken seriously.

@notaproviderMD Yes, you can dismiss patients. That doesn't create responsibility. Patients can act however they please, and are free to seek care elsewhere. Poor doctors don't do well at keeping and finding patients long-term or find themselves moving a lot like bad cops and pedo priests.

If patients get on the internet and complain about a negative experience with their doctor, are you saying that not a single doctor chimes in to apologize for bad behavior on the part of the doctor when it is due? If so, I don't find that to be true, and have personally done it. Yes, some doctors have terrible bedside manner, and some are just egotistical assholes. We're human just like everyone else. We also make mistakes. But I'll tell you this, every physician I know owns their mistakes, and takes them to heart. Most of those mistakes don't cost patient lives, but we still own them and take them to bed with us. Still, internet shared experiences are always single-sided. Your doctor can't get on the internet and tell their side of the story without violating your privacy. So, there is going to be a natural tendency for doctors to be defensive on behalf of a colleague. Often there is an explanation for the physician's actions that the patient doesn't understand, or they dismiss the doctor's point of view entirely. Yes, some physician's responses might be dismissive or rude. Again, human. However, providing an explanation alone doesn't dismiss the patient's concern or complaint. I also see patients get on the internet and attribute their experience to all doctors. "Why do doctors do this?" This post is an example. You're making a broad statement about doctors. Of course, you're going to get a lot of defensive reactions from doctors on posts like that. Why should doctors respond with accountability to blanket accusations?

@RationeSolum @TuckFitterBots @kirabira No, it isn't. And you've been pretty open about that. It's to protect YOU. How many times have you brought up liability and tribunals across your replies?? It's a CYA move, it has nothing to do with improving standards of care for patients.

Hello it is me Kira :)🍉
I love how addicted doctors are to re-diagnosing us w/the same shit we’ve already been diagnosed, how if we come in & tell them what other doctors have already told us they won’t believe us until they personally replicate the literal same tests & baby step treatments first.

this is part of why girltwinks turn collaborationist. they're offered conditional entry into Woman-As-Social-Identity, and it's contingent on perpetuating violence against those who didn't make the grade. pointing this out makes you a high priority target

The reason there's no Windows 9 is because they assumed Windows Mobile was a straight-up iPhone Killer. That might have created real confusion for consumers if Windows Mobile– their 9th operating system– had become as ubiquitous as they hoped it would.

Windows 9 was Windows mobile on the short-lived suite of Microsoft Phones and Tablets. This is just entirely BS ripped straight out this man's bunghole.
Elorm Daniel@elormkdaniel

When Microsoft released Windows 10, they skipped Windows 9 entirely. One widely discussed explanation among developers relates to compatibility with older software. For years, some legacy programs checked the Windows version using simple code that looked for strings like “Windows 95” or “Windows 98.” If Microsoft had released “Windows 9,” those programs might have mistakenly assumed the system was an older Windows 9x version, causing compatibility issues. By jumping straight to Windows 10, Microsoft avoided that confusion. Microsoft also framed it as a symbolic jump representing a major step forward rather than just another incremental upgrade. The story behind Apple skipping iPhone 9 is different and mostly about branding. In 2017, Apple released the iPhone X (pronounced “iPhone ten”) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. Since the company was marking a decade of the device, it made more marketing sense to jump directly from iPhone 8 to iPhone X rather than release an iPhone 9 right before the anniversary model. The missing “9” isn’t a shared conspiracy or secret tech superstition. Microsoft skipped it largely for technical and compatibility reasons, while Apple skipped it mainly for marketing and anniversary branding. Different reasons… same missing number.

Moreover, it's very practical of you to believe that people are logical actors that private themselves to prepare for future troubles when they see them. They aren't. People are at least as likely to seek comfort in vice when they're feeling badly– scared, if not much more so.

This is so obviously not true lmao. Anything that survived COVID will survive "a war" and "an oil crunch", two things we're much more used to and prepared for than an international pandemic.
cash4turtles(Waifudev)🌸☢️@WaifuverseAI

Theres so much that won't survive. It's easy to forget the absurd amount of prosperity the west had even post 2008. 90% of the stuff you enjoy simply won't exist in a brass tacks recovery economy. Doordash, streamers, paid tweets, ai. It's all about to get wiped out.

Anyways my family is in a bit of trouble financially this month and I feel like some big portion of it is my fault. So any help you could give would probably help me stabilize a little bit. Emotionally speaking. x.com/i/status/20405…

I wish it was okay to openly talk about it on here when you're really, actually struggling and getting close to the edge. Punishing the immiserated for not being advertiser friendly must be one of the most morally reprehensible parts of social media.
