Here is the entire list of defencemen drafted in the 1st or 2nd round in the 2010s who have hit 100+ NHL games without having established themselves as full-time NHLers by their D+5 (age 22) season.
"Defencemen take longer" is cope.

@Matt985127 Yea this is what I thought it was - mask can't affect opposing team's reasonable chance at scoring, so if anything it should have been blown down as soon as the puck was on Jets stick well before Scheifele break. Don't know what issue Helle would have had with it.

@WannaBeChevy This is what rule 9.6 per nhl rule book of 2025-2026 says about goalie mask malfunction coming from Stars fan and this would have prevented Scheifle's breakaway in OT had it been whistled

The airball is not just his omission, its this notion that he has to be a bottom 6 option. He's a better offensive option (especially as a big moment scorer) than others who will be in the top 9 (who are also better defensive players). He should be top 9, slot someone else down.
