Our first effort using citizen science data to study the geography of a butterfly warning pattern is out today: doi.org/10.1098/rsbl.2… Congrats to @WanzhenLiuMove for great work on this, and numerous others for many hours spent scoring thousands of butterfly phenotypes.

Hummingbirds have the fastest metabolisms on Earth. Some need to visit 2,000 flowers a day just to keep going

Interested in butterfly genomes? Segregating chromosome fusions? Both!? Then you should check out our new preprint on the genome sequence of Brenthis ino, which happens to be the first of my PhD! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Very pleased to announce the launch of online genetics/ evolution teaching webtools by Russell Myers. Simulate genetic crosses, assess inheritance patterns from pedigrees, calculate recombination fractions, test for Hardy-Weinberg, and more! Please share! genevol.biology.duke.edu

one benefit of searching for scat in the neotropics is that we’re always already on the lookout for vipers 🐍 that being said, many are still amazingly cryptic! can YOU #SpotThatSnake???

Happy to share our preprint on the steps in the evolution of a butterfly supergene. Thanks to both @PhDetails and @Kang_Wook_Kim for major contributions. We used a trio approach to assemble all three known alleles of a warning colour supergene. doi.org/10.1101/2021.1…

The Canary Blue, Cyclyrius webbianus, is an endemic butterfly restricted to the Western Canary islands. We found it both on La Palma and Tenerife, from sea level to the Caldera (>2000m).
