Part of the Dogebox architecture is the DKMS (Doge Key Manager Service).. which is responsible for managing access to keys for signing messages, signing transactions etc, on behalf of the user. These keys are encrypted using the hardware secure-enclave, essentially making the Dogebox into a kind of hardware wallet (although definitely a hot one!) The point of this is that we can provide the ability for developers to opt in to having their apps keys managed by a user's dogebox, and then whenever the app (we call them PUPs) wants to sign something, they need permission from the user. Initially this permission will be managed on the box itself, but through the magic of cryptography, will eventually move out to mobile companion app, and even an SDK that other devs can use to create their own 'key manager' that the dogebox would defer to (Not speaking for MyDoge, but as an example they could use the SDK to become the key-signer for apps on someone's dogebox). While that might sound complicated, its about putting the ownership of keys, and approval for what is and isn't signed, in the hands of you, the user. Here's a prototype of the UI @blendtwenty has been working on, that sits outside the pup's 'chrome' (browser iframe).. that would 'pop over' if a pup wanted the user to transact some doge, sign a message, or some other thing with a key that only the user has access to. It's being designed in an extensible/pluggable way so that what you are being shown to sign is contextual, sending a tip? you see where and how much, paying for goods? perhaps you see the items you are being asked to pay for.. etc. There's still a way to go to get these interactions right, but we wanted to keep folk in the loop on what we're building toward: a secure runtime for dogecoin apps where the ability to transact and what you spend your dogecoin on is 100% at your fingertips, not some centralised exchange.

The next step for crypto is to make payments instant and free globally. This will take lots of work from all of us, Coinbase included, getting layer 2's integrated, better on-ramps, simpler UX/onboarding, etc. A magic threshold would be getting the average payment under 1 cent and confirmed in under 1 second. I think we'd see orders of magnitude more payments move to crypto if we can achieve that. Today, crypto has the *potential* to improve global payments infrastructure, but it hasn't yet delivered on that promise as we're largely still stuck on layer 1. Payments are like water, they flow to the path of least resistance.

Damus will be removed from the app store in 14 days, apple says zaps are not allowed on their platform because they *could* be used by content creators to sell digital content. This is right before we’re about to give our talk at the oslo freedom forum on how decentralized social networks with lightning integration are bringing financial freedom to the masses... pretty sus… 😕 This would be a watershed moment: If people can’t transact freely p2p on their platform, this has huge implications for the entire ecosystem of apps with lightning integration and v4v.
