"You only get to that point because you have tremendous alignment in your staff, your coaches - everybody's rowing in the same direction." Was a coordinator year 1, nothing is better then the experience of doing it. Everyone’s path is different, and wanting the next step isn’t a bad thing, in fact I think there are too many coaches and don’t push themselves to deserve whatever is the next step. Prepare for the job you want next not just the job you are currently at, or you’ll never be ready when the opportunity comes.
