🔦 Spotlight on Local Climate Action 🌻 Sandy Lane Nursery and Forest School has strengthened its sustainability across the board. Efforts include reducing single‑use plastics, growing vegetables on site, harvesting rainwater, and encouraging reuse through second‑hand uniform options and book swaps. Children also play an active role, using recycling bins, caring for wildlife, gardening, exploring the weather, and engaging in creative junk modelling. Together they are helping build a environmentally conscious community!

🔦 Spotlight on Local Climate Action ♻️ 🐦 A Warrington childminder is demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability. As well as working towards a goal of ensuring that 90% of all toys and materials are preloved, families are encouraged to donate unwanted items to support a circular reuse system. Outdoor play is enriched through the Scrap Shed, where children use donated recyclable materials to develop creativity, problem‑solving and teamwork skills. Upcycling projects, such as a handmade bird feeder and a converted bird‑watching hide, further promote children’s engagement and connection with nature. Food waste is also reduced by creating a wormery, where children learn about composting and later use the compost on the allotment 🪱

🔦 Spotlight on climate action 🌻 🐝 @TheOldSchoolWA1 Project Warrington is a registered charity offering a inclusive community space for charities, community groups and artists. Over the past four years, part of it's car park has been transformed into an RHS award-winning urban garden. It is maintained by dedicated volunteers, from the MacIntyre Greater Communities “Garden Gang”, with a dedicated space maintained by @WarringtonVip (Visually Impaired People). What was once a unused plainly flagged area has become a flourishing, wildlife-friendly environment in the heart of an urban area. Across the site, vegetables and herbs are grown and used within the VIP lunch club and shared with the wider community!

📣 Our annual report of progress for 2025 is now live 📃 Please read and share the report to spread the word. There are some themes in the plan where significant steps have been taken locally but there are also areas where not enough is being done currently. The main 'ask' in our strategy is for people to help translate it into action in their own context and accelerate progress. People are essential to making a contribution to reducing pollution and protecting nature that in turn may also result in cost savings and health and wellbeing benefits 🌳 🌍 ♻️ warrington.gov.uk/sites/default/…
