First, I think it’s important to do some research and check the last time the government actively advocated for birth control. The reality is that Nigeria is poorer than the dreams our parents sold to us. It would also be useful to look into the top 10 mineral resources the world currently depends on and determine how many of them Nigeria actually has.
Many people continue to have children while teaching them that Nigeria is a rich country and that the government is simply “eating the money.” But in reality, people also bear responsibility for bringing children into the world. Is there anywhere in the Nigerian Constitution that states people are entitled to certain incentives just for having children?
Let’s move away from reproduction for a moment and consider another issue. Nigeria is a highly diverse country with many languages and three major religions. This alone creates complexity in achieving unity.
Now, looking at international influence countries like Arab nations, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Israel all have influence in Nigeria. With foreign involvement often comes competing interests, propaganda, and sometimes hostility, which can make national unity even more difficult.
So far, I’ve mostly talked about problems, but it’s also important to acknowledge what the current government has done.
For example, ASUU strikes have been a recurring issue in Nigeria, often coinciding with periods of unrest. that situation seems to have improved recently. With NELFUND, students can now access government grants and stipends more easily, making education more accessible. In some cases, it almost feels like students are being financially supported to attend school.
On the issue of insecurity, one could argue that part of it stems from opposition in the northern region. Since President Tinubu came into office, there have been efforts to curb economic sabotage, such as reforms affecting Bureau de Change operations many of which were dominated by Northerners and had loopholes that enabled exploitation. Naturally, changes like these can create resistance and short-term instability. Not only the reason for the unrest
Nigeria has also relied on subsidies for many years, but the truth is that it’s not sustainable to keep subsidizing everything .
Additionally, the government is currently working on federal road projects across all geopolitical zones, even if not every single state is covered.
Lastly, improvements have been made in the passport system. People can now obtain international passports more efficiently, without the long delays that were common in the past.
Fuel is expensive all over the world. If you want to compare Nigeria to countries like Libya or Saudi Arabia, you also have to consider that our population far exceeds theirs. Countries like China aren’t busy arguing online like we are they focus on producing most of what they need, don’t even compare. India also produces a lot, but personally, I would still choose Nigeria over India.
The reality is, we need to face the difficulties now so we can enjoy the benefits later. Nigeria is still under construction like Ikeja Airport
Think of it this way. when you want to renovate a 4bedroom house, you either stay in one room while fixing the others, or you demolish the entire house and move somewhere else temporarily. Whichever option you choose, there will be discomfort and inconvenience along the way.
