Incidentally my older brother & I were one of the first people in Montreal to have an Nintendo NES, but I then drifted away from video games when I discovered sports, music, history, and... well, girls. But always been obsessed with the history and business of gaming... and ensured I hired real hard core and casual gamers @WatchMojo. The team at MojoPlays just launched a massive 6-part series on the Complete History of Console Gaming, and the first episode is out now. It looks at the true origins of the industry from the 1950s through the 1970s. I always assumed the industry was born in neon-lit arcades, so I thought it was fascinating that video games actually started as technical side projects by physicists and computer scientists in university research labs. They were literally playing early versions of tennis on oscilloscopes. If you're a fan of gaming history, or just love a good origin story about how a niche science experiment turned into a multi-billion dollar global industry, give Part 1 a watch after the jump!
