Unfinished Arch is like an iceberg.
What appears effortless above ground is supported by extraordinary complexity below – a 30-foot-tall, 25,000 lb stainless steel cantilevered structure, anchored nearly 50 feet into the waterfront site.
This engineering marvel is coming to life through careful collaboration between Waterfront Toronto, Artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, and Eventscape custom architectural fabrication – helping deliver this this technically complex installation through precision engineering, fabrication, and careful site execution.
Now mostly clad, the arch is beginning to reveal the elegance and power of Rafael’s vision.
Something extraordinary is almost here.

The images from beginning to end show conctruction progress shots of Unfinished Arch from various angles during the day with a rendering at the end showing the below ground structure of the Arch.

This summer, the Inner Harbour connects east to west in a whole new way!
Waterfront Toronto, in partnership with the @cityoftoronto and the @TOPortAuthority, has selected York Bay Marine Services as the operator for the East‑West Water Shuttle Pilot - a seasonal service launching this June to test the feasibility of expanded water-based transit across Toronto’s Inner Harbour.
Running from June through September, the pilot will connect three stops:
⚓ Ookwemin Minising (Port Lands/Biidaasige Park) – new
⚓ Yonge Street Slip (Central Waterfront)
⚓ Portland Slip/Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport – new
The pilot advances a key recommendation from the Sea Bus Feasibility Study and supports the 2020 Marine Use Strategy, a long-term roadmap for expanding how people access and move through Toronto’s harbour.
More details, including schedules and fares, will be shared in the coming months as we get closer to launch.

Designed to serve more than 150,000 people who will live and work along the eastern waterfront and accommodate over 50,000 daily riders, Waterfront East Transit puts people first – ensuring transit is planned for future growth and for the communities who already call the waterfront home.
This week’s tri-government commitment to advance Waterfront East Transit lays the foundation for a thriving waterfront: new homes, new neighbourhoods, and connected communities and destinations. For Waterfront Toronto, this marks a major step forward in building a waterfront that is truly connected, inclusive, and complete.
