Spotted in the new mouth of the Don River: blobs! These jelly‑like blobs are bryozoans, and seeing not just one but lots of them is a great sign that we’ve built first‑class aquatic habitat. We now have two years of fisheries data (2024–2025), showing 34 fish species recorded in the area. In 2024 alone, TRCA documented 29 species, up from almost none before flood protection work began. From blob‑like “moss animals” to Northern Pike and even an Emerald Bowfin, the new river is supporting life. The Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario, and the City of Toronto have each committed to advancing Waterfront East Transit – a landmark commitment to unlock housing, connect communities, and drive economic growth along Toronto’s eastern waterfront. More than transit, this is the foundation for the next wave of our city’s future. Alongside the recently announced $975 million tri-government investment in enabling housing infrastructure on the waterfront, Waterfront East Transit will unlock access to new neighbourhoods like Quayside, Ookwemin Minising and beyond. This generates more than 100,000 jobs and more than $13.2 billion in economic value. Watch the full video on YouTube and read the press release to learn more: bit.ly/4s8gs13
