❓ FAQ: Can GRIMPS talk? Field GRIMPS-catchers decided not to wait for grants and ran a quick experiment right on the front lines. It turned out that some GRIMPS can mimic human speech. Most of the time, it’s just single words like “give,” “chips,” or “play.” But sometimes pure GRIMPS-style monologues emerge, where the subject unleashes a whole stream of curses and threats. The censored version sounds roughly like this: "###, take your hands off me! #%}##, I’ve been here for only five miliminutes and you’re already %#}{! Anyway, %#% this #%% planet, I’m %##}* out of here!"* And yes, this particular GRIMPS was never seen again after its speech. Coincidence? @Wattstudiogames Just an idea, since they have bells maybe it could be used as a sound indicator of when they attack, a warning for you to dodge. A visual telegraph attack would be good too.

While humans think the city is quiet, the Grimps are in total chaos. Christmas and New Year are serious business even for plush invaders. In the morning, elders send the young ones to gather threads and stuffing for decorations. By evening, the whole swarm reunites: recapping the year, bragging about mischief, plotting new trouble, and making wishes. 🎮 Dev Diary: Prototyping the Officer Enemy We’re currently prototyping a new enemy archetype for Tsarevna — the Officer. The Officer is designed as a more challenging opponent compared to regular mobs. He’s more aggressive and introduces a new combat obstacle for the player: armor / shield. Enemy Role Officers appear in the first half of the game and act as leaders among common enemies. Narratively, they stand higher in the hierarchy and visually feel larger and heavier than regular soldiers. If basic enemies rely on speed and numbers, Officers create pressure on their own. How the Officer Works Officers increase combat challenge through: · Higher health and damage · Increased aggression · Defensive mechanics (shield / armor) In most encounters, Officers appear alongside regular enemies, usually in a 3 soldiers / 1 Officer setup. While soldiers distract and swarm the player, the Officer becomes the main threat. Combat Behavior As soon as combat starts, the Officer actively engages the player with heavy attacks. Direct damage doesn’t work at first — the Officer raises his shield and blocks incoming hits. This creates a new layer of combat depth: the player must dodge attacks, manage positioning, and choose the right moments to strike, instead of just dealing constant damage. The Officer’s shield can only be broken using heavy attacks, forcing players to think tactically while dealing with surrounding enemies. Design Goal The goal of the Officer archetype is to slow down combat pacing, introduce tactical decision-making, and clearly contrast with fast, disposable enemies.
