High school conferences. They’ve been broken by adult egos over football, selfishness and at times continue to hurt innocent student athletes, who are being rolled out onto courts and fields just to check an adult box. Before I get into how they’re physically hurting kids, I’ll ask you this once again: Do most kids care about a conference title? Nope. I talk to high school student athletes all the time throughout the Chicago region, throughout Illinois and nationally. It’s a question I ask continually, and most kids have no idea the name of the conference their school is in. It’s 2026 - not 1970. Conferences only exist these days to check a football-scheduling box. That’s it. Each spring, there are 1,000s of high school games rescheduled due to weather. You can’t control the weather they say, but you can control common sense. Why are we forcing rescheduled conference games to be played that result in blowout victories? The kids don’t want to play them, and they’re an utter waste of financials from busing and cost of game. Most of all, what these rescheduled blowout conference games are causing are student athletes to play too many games in a short window of time. You have some coaches literally running up the score as quick as possible to get the games over with, because of their team’s physical health and lack of bench. It happens every year, and the same damn hamster wheel continues year after year because adult school leaders get to the June finish line, checkout for a much-needed break and get right back on the same hamster wheel in August and go around and around again. The kids are the ones paying the price with their physical health because adult school leaders are forcing these games, playing 3 games in 4 days or 4 games in 6 days. Most kids and schools don’t have access to elite recovery, and data shows that overuse in a short span is not good for teenage athletes. What is the goal of high school sports? No matter you think the goal is, health/safety has to be the No. 1 priority - always. #MoreThanJUSTGames #IHSA

#ICYMI on #CBS: 100s of high school students from St. Edward in #Elgin were in different communities creating a wave of service to enhance the lives of others. The school helped support nine different organizations on Wednesday, with students on-site at seven of those locations. Two great stories by #CBS spotlighting kids, a school that opened 85 years ago in 1941 with 82 students and just finished a $6 million dollar enhancement and local organizations making a true difference for others in the #GameOfLife. Keep this in mind: February is #RandomActsOfKindnessMonth. You don’t need money to make a difference, just a little effort and time is what local organizations need more than ever these days. When you provide kids with opportunities, more times than not they’ll exceed expectations. #MoreThanJUSTGames #IHSA

@TrustTrost Or, even crazier, multi school districts (u46 for example) dome only one field and schedule sharing. You aren’t saying EVERY school get one. Like you say - problem solve

On Friday, female and male student athletes across different high school sports will be in the TV spotlight for three hours LIVE on #WGN. #DYK: One Chicago-area school has countless Chicago Bears connections from current and former players and even connections to team owners. Two of its most famous athletic alums actually starred in soccer and baseball before moving to football full time. And guess what? They played big roles in helping the soccer and baseball programs win #IHSA trophies. #MoreThanJUSTGames

@Peter_Bukowski I find it humorous that Gary had the same results in this game as he has had the last 8 or 9 games. O wait, he isn’t playing today…

From Streamwood for 17 years to Burlington Central for 2 years to Grayslake Central for 2 years and Dundee-Crown for 12 years, that’s 33 total years - nearly 400 consecutive months - helping 1,000s of kids, families, schools and communities…on AND off the courts and fields. #MoreThanJUSTGames #IHSA

Unbeaten in 64 of its last 76 games. Not bad, right?  Now imagine if the program hadn’t had a winning season prior to that stretch in more than a decade?  Little better than not bad, right? Say hello to the De La Salle (#Chicago) boys soccer program, which has suffered a mere three losses this season: Two to 3A powers (South Elgin 3-0, Lyons 1-0) and a one-goal loss to rival St. Laurence.  A year ago, the two losses coach Frank Martinez's squad suffered took extra time to beat the Meteors. If you want to look at the last two years alone, @DLSMeteors is unbeaten in 47 of its last 52 games. And that's just on the boys side. We'll talk about the girls side on Wednesday. #IHSA

Think I'm all set with the Golden jet sweeps too. He's not an elusive runner in space, especially going sideways.
