Governor Sherrill and Passaic County leaders have taken steps to safeguard residents’ constitutional rights. Now it is up to us in Wayne to do the same. Let us stand up for our neighbors and ensure Wayne remains a place where everyone feels safe and respected.

That is why I strongly support the petition urging Mayor Vergano and the Wayne Town Council to pass a resolution protecting our schools, parks, municipal buildings, and all town-owned facilities from ICE actions unless a valid judicial warrant is presented.

Wayne is the town my husband Charles and I chose to raise our daughters in because it is a community that values dignity, safety, and respect for everyone who calls it home.

To President Trump and the Republicans in Congress who have stood silent: stop ICE now. Not another dollar should be appropriated to fund this militia-style operation that has made us less safe, not more. We must defund and dismantle the tactics that have led to death and chaos in the streets.
