But the reality is more layered. Using the NSE 500 may be too broad for a mid- and small-cap-heavy strategy. But the real question is: Can you beat the overall market? Which leads to a more important shift: Performance isn't judged by a single metric. It’s evaluated across multiple lenses 👇 → NSE 500 (broad market) → Mid & small cap indices → Small-cap index → Peer group Because one benchmark can mislead. A strategy might outperform in one place, and underperform in another. The real goal? Outperform across all relevant comparisons. That’s a much tougher but more honest way to measure performance.
