@MissAshes92 @JackRuddenWX Right, the afterwards is what was key and they had issued the WEA when NWS TAE had decided to expire the warning. IS 247 and 251 are really good. I think FEMA should do a few workshops here and there.

@WeatherGarrett @JackRuddenWX Warnings that get WEA don't need an EM WEA unless it related to response info afterwards or cascading impacts. It's a training issue - but we don't have EM training standards to ensure everyone knows best practice so it will continue to happen. Unfortunately. We need standards.

Nearly 300,000 people live in Leon County. Imagine if everyone had their alerts on. They could also be confused on where the tornado is… “Parts of Leon”. It’s not explicitly mentioned in our ICS training, but this is against best practices and can cause people to turn off WEAs.

@JackRuddenWX @MissAshes92 Would love to hear her thoughts. Can’t make mistakes with IPAWS - the public and professionals notice. This FL WEA is not great in my professional opinion. Now if there was a wide swath of damage, an adjusted WEA would be useful and can directly advise people to stay home, etc.,

@CMcKayFL Exactly, that can become a PITA. I’m not a radio guy and don’t understand the reasoning behind not distinguishing coastal and inland. 012021 for Collier, next county is Columbia, 012023. There’s no 012022, not sure why but I’m sure there’s a reason why.

@WeatherGarrett My opinion is that NWS needs to partition the counties in Florida into separate SAME code regions. During IAN I had to shut off my weather radios because I kept getting bombarded with storm surge and coastal flooding alerts. I live almost 15 miles inland, different hazards.

I’m not confirming or denying but it seems Tallahassee, FL has seen more snow than Raleigh, NC with this winter storm.

@amarkowitzWX I know a few current students at FSU that were focused on school work and other activities that just made it even more tiring. Plus it felt like everything was just spread out.

I am not sure how to solve this, but the way AMS is structured really screws those who are giving talks or presenting posters on Thursday. I have thought this for years and feel bad for those who by luck of the draw have to present their research to leaner and exhausted audiences

For those going to AMS in Houston - We better hope the EURO model is the outcome, keeping the worst of ZR north. The only time I’d be satisfied with a cold rain.

Video of a waterspout moving onshore Vanderbilt Beach at 1:21pm. Rapidly weakened as it moved onshore.

@NWSMiami Didn’t have an official way to measure wind, but I’d say there would be approximately 35-40 mph gusts at Vanderbilt Beach when the front passed.

@WeatherGarrett Thanks Garrett! We don't have radar coverage that low over there so we really appreciate the report. We also saw some additional brief waterspouts offshore via the Naples EarthCam! Any estimate on current wind gusts over there?
