Domain Account Hacked? Don’t Wait to Find Out the Hard Way
Is any domain registrar completely safe? That’s a comforting idea—but not a reliable one. And if you own valuable domain names, it’s not a question you want answered the hard way.
In the past 24 hours, I received eight separate emails from GoDaddy, each containing the same message: "Here’s your one-time-use support code." The first one was easy to dismiss. The next few weren’t. By the eighth, it was clear something wasn’t right.
I changed my password immediately. The emails kept coming.
So what’s happening? There are only a few possibilities:
Someone is actively trying to break into the account
A coordinated attack is targeting registrar systems
Or there’s a broader vulnerability being exploited
None of those are scenarios you want to ignore.
Why This Matters More Than You Think
Right now, I have eight domain names in my GoDaddy account. Two of them: Live.bid and Peer.trade have real potential value. But here’s the thing: every domain has potential value.
Take OpenAI’s domain, OpenAI .com. When it was registered in 2007, it was just another name. Today, it represents a company valued in the hundreds of billions. The lesson? The domain you overlook today could become your most valuable asset tomorrow.
And attackers know this.
One report estimates that over 1 million domains are vulnerable, with more than 30,000 confirmed hijackings since 2019, often due to weak DNS validation or poor account security. That’s not a fringe problem—it’s an active threat landscape.
Prevention Is Easier Than Recovery
If your domain gets stolen, recovering it can be slow, expensive, and sometimes impossible. Prevention, on the other hand, is straightforward—if you take it seriously.
Whether your domains are with GoDaddy, Dynadot, Sav, Spaceship, or Atom, the responsibility ultimately falls on you.
7 Practical Ways to Protect Your Domain Names
1. Strengthen Your Passwords
Use long, unique passwords. Avoid anything guessable or reused.
2. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
This is one of the most effective defenses against unauthorized access.
3. Never Share Your Credentials
Not with colleagues, not with contractors—no exceptions.
4. Avoid Browser Auto-Save for Logins
Convenient? Yes. Secure? Not always.
5. Monitor Your Domains Regularly
Check for unauthorized changes to DNS, ownership, or account settings.
6. Read Registrar Emails Carefully
Security alerts often hide in plain sight.
7. Choose Your Registrar Wisely
If a provider has a history of breaches or poor response, consider moving your assets.
There are bad actors actively trying to take domain names without paying for them. That’s not paranoia—it’s reality.
Treat every #domain you own like it’s already valuable. Because one day, it might be.

7 Outbound This Weekend
In a previous chapter of my life, I worked as a social worker in New York, the Carolinas, and Colorado. I also spent time as an admissions counselor for several online universities—a role that felt a lot like phone sales.
When your income depends on making cold calls, you quickly learn something important: fear of rejection stops mattering. You either make the call, or you don’t grow.
In my book 'Accidental Domain Investor', I talk about selling .org #domain names through outbound emails and calls. It wasn’t luck—it was action.
This weekend, I challenge you to do the same.
Take time to research and identify potential buyers for domain names you own. Then send a simple, thoughtful email introducing a name that aligns with their brand or business.
Don’t overthink it. Don’t wait for perfection.
The worst response you can get is: "I’m not interested."
And that’s not failure—that’s progress.
Every message you send builds confidence, sharpens your skills, and increases your chances of success.
I’ll be doing my research and reaching out too.
Wishing you focus, courage, and great results.

Sold WaterValue․com for $20,000 on the last day of April.
EMD count: 9 (dotDB) dotdb.com/search?keyword…
Held for 12 years.
No hype. No outbound. Just data, patience, and conviction.
Domains with real signals quietly compound in value over time. And when the right buyer shows up, everything clicks.
12 years → $20K. Worth the wait.
