@solentsport @hantscricket I’m also in the “favourite England batsman” group. Really sad to read this - wonderful player, bravest I saw, square cut you could watch all day. Rest in peace, Judge - you were one of the best.

VERY SAD NEWS- Robin Smith has passed away overnight in Australia. He was one of England best Batters in the 80's & 90's @hantscricket

English

@gregallenRTE @LoveCycling @amateur_info @OpenGolfIreland I’d say we’re 3:1 on Saturdays but more over the entire season as every Monday and Wednesday comp is stableford. My pal who lived here for 15 years then went back to Scotland now plays strokes every week.
English

@WeeNeill23 @LoveCycling @amateur_info @OpenGolfIreland Strokes competitions are, in
my experience, generally outweighed 3:1 by stableford comps. So maybe have a look at stableford comps for a ratio in the other direction? Strokes comps should be tough. That’s why have their place in the competition cycle, albeit a minority place.

Anyone in a Golf Club that trialled the reduction in singles playing Handicap %?
Golf Ireland asked clubs to trial 85% rather than standard 95% and I'd be interested in hearing if there was any data or results from this change? @amateur_info @gregallenRTE @OpenGolfIreland
English

@LoveCycling @amateur_info @gregallenRTE @OpenGolfIreland Was speaking with one of our Competition Committee yesterday - apparently a much bigger impact in Strokes competitions. Only 3 of the top 50 were from Class 3 last week. So “maybe it’s too harsh “. 😳
English

@WeeNeill23 @amateur_info @gregallenRTE @OpenGolfIreland Cheers Rod. Yeah that seems to be most likely scenario. It's an improvement but never going to make it fair where it's an equal distribution of winners amongst lower HCs
English

@CharlieGeoS2 @bagshaw2112 No, you didn’t. Ryanair don’t fly to or from the US.
English

@bagshaw2112 My first flight from the US to the Netherlands was on Ryan Air. I got the flight because of the low cost. I didn't know they could put seats that close together. I couldn't move my legs the entire flight. I never flew on them again.
English

@Daniel_Rapaport He only gets half a point because English was in the envelope. If it was someone other than English, English would have taken that players place and Hovland wouldn’t have gotten a tie
English

@Daniel_Rapaport Am I crazy or should the match be played using the rules as agreed beforehand?
English

@CraigyAnderson @MMcEwanGolf He made a good point though that if he’s going to do it, it starts pretty much at the end of this season and he’s maybe not ready yet to stop competing, given the amount of time he’s seen Donald or into it. So 2027 might be too soon for him.

#golfchat question on a Fri:
On the 18th green, do you take your hat off and shake hands every single time? Just with new people? Your regular groups? Never?
It just hit me this week that I do it every single round.
English

@MMcEwanGolf Worst part is that the guy that scored the two goals could and should have been signed for nothing in the summer.
English

@WeeNeill23 @TheDroneLooper @jamierkennedy I assume there could be some suppression, like there is for Turnberry as I mentioned, based on--correct me if I'm wrong & it's changed--that WG does not allow female members.
English

@CJPimentoCheese @TheDroneLooper @jamierkennedy Definitely not a conscious decision to keep it low key. WG relies on green fees to keep members’ costs down. Fortunate to have a friend who’s a member and played it last Sunday. To me it’s the second best course in Ayrshire behind Turnberry which I agree is the best I’ve played.
English

@TheDroneLooper @jamierkennedy I don’t think so. I just think it gets left out. But I might be wrong now as when I went in 2016 I don’t think many had heard of it. I actually called Prestwick & asked for a recommendation & that’s what they told me. Golf is different now & perhaps my view is no longer relevant.
English

@logan14920 @crowhurstsr @TheBarmyArmy No, you didn’t. You said “When England looted the 2019 World Cup from NZ by cheating”
English

@logan14920 @crowhurstsr @TheBarmyArmy A Sri Lankan umpire made a mistake. Where did England CHEAT? That’s what you’ve accused them of.
English

@logan14920 @crowhurstsr @TheBarmyArmy How is it beyond you to understand that ICC set the rules, not England? You may not have liked them (I certainly didn’t) but there is no universe in which this means that England cheated.
English

@crowhurstsr @TheBarmyArmy Sharing the trophy would have been the best decision.

Open Champ Diaries (wed)
-Just a gorgeous day out at Portrush today. Mid 60s light breeze. Calm before the storm haha
-Played the back nine by myself today and was able to get some good prep in. Practiced a new shot, bumping/putting with a 7i. I set up super close, get steep with it and it skids a little bit and rolls nice along the ground. For shots that I want to roll but maybe if the lie is so so and I want a bit more steepness than a putting stroke. We’ll see if I use it this week.
