[NEWS] 260504 “#PerfectCrown” Makes History as the First K-Drama to Stay in Disney+ U.S. TOP 10 for 21 Consecutive Days 👑 Since its premiere, Perfect Crown has maintained strong ratings, buzz, and top positions on OTT charts. As of May 3, 2026, it has made history as the first Korean drama to remain in @DisneyPlus U.S. TOP10 for 21 consecutive days, proving its sustained success. According to global OTT ranking site FlixPatrol, the series first entered the Disney+ U.S. TOP10 on April 12 and has consistently remained on the chart ever since. It is particularly noteworthy for securing competitiveness with a romance-centered narrative in the U.S. market, where crime, investigation, and sci-fi genres are typically more popular. Its long-term presence in the U.S. market is evaluated as an achievement that goes beyond short-term buzz. Unlike many previous K-dramas that performed strongly in global rankings but only briefly entered the U.S. charts, Perfect Crown has built a stable viewership base and stands out for its sustainability. This trend is also interpreted as an example of how the global expansion of K-dramas is shifting from an Asia-centered structure to one that simultaneously gains traction in the U.S. market. In fact, the series has ranked in the TOP10 across 47 countries, demonstrating its broad international appeal regardless of region. Domestically, the show continues to perform well. Since its broadcast, it has consistently ranked No. 1 in metropolitan and nationwide ratings, as well as among the key 20 to 54 demographic. It also remains at the top in integrated TV-OTT buzz rankings and cast popularity metrics. An MBC representative stated, “Among global rankings, sustained performance in the U.S. market is an important benchmark for measuring content competitiveness. It is especially meaningful that the series is receiving balanced support across diverse cultural regions.” Congratulations to @_IUofficial and team Perfect Crown 👑 #IU #아이유 #21세기대군부인 naver.me/5SKajOSD

[직업 병 rant on the subtitles] Also, regarding D+ subs in English, since it's English CC (closed caption) subs, I kinda get why the quality is like that... I just don’t get why D+ doesn’t have a proper English subtitle that isn’t CC. Because CC subs tend to be created first, even before the English template. But once the template is ready, the quality should improve? So why are they using the CC version as the final English subtitles and the only one available? 🤔 I rarely watch shows on D+, so I’m not too familiar with how they handle this... but if this is really how D+ works, it just proves how shitty they are as an int’l OTT. I know people complain a lot about Netfl** subtitles most of the time, but quality-wise, they’re still winning. Also, I’m so triggered by them not adjusting the subtitle positioning. I thought positioning subs higher to avoid overlapping with mouth movements or important scenes is a pretty universal rule across platforms. Hmm... 🫤

According to this article, Netflix is reportedly shifting its focus to variety shows instead of dramas. The reason is the high appearance fees. Drama appearance fees are reportedly around 300 million won per episode. "Dramas are a significant production burden, with actors earning between 300 million and 500 million won per episode. This explains why some argue that Netflix's high actor fees are backfiring on the company. Analysts say Netflix is shifting its focus to entertainment programs, which carry relatively lower production costs compared to dramas, and is expanding its content production." v.daum.net/v/202601171741…

Netflix has won the bidding war to purchase Warner Bros. Discovery. They are now entering exclusive deal talks, with Netflix offering $30 a share and a $5 billion break-up fee. The sale is not yet finalized, as the U.S. Department of Justice could also interfere due to anti-trust concerns. (Source: thewrap.com/netflix-wins-t…)
