***Press Release*** WCSO Detectives Charge Man with 25 Counts of Sexual Assault on a Child [Weld County, Colo.] On March 10, at 5:37 P.M. Weld County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies responded to a follow up call for service in the 16000 block of Coleman Ave, in Aristocrat Ranchettes. During patrol’s initial investigation the victim, a juvenile female, disclosed she was allegedly sexually assaulted by a family friend, 36-year-old Jesus Chacon, on multiple occasions over a period of four years. The alleged sexual assaults occurred at Chacon’s residence, and at a church in Fort Lupton. WCSO detectives assumed the investigation from patrol, and learned the suspect supervised the nursery at the United Methodist Church in Fort Lupton, where he had been responsible for the victim on multiple occasions. Yesterday, detectives developed probable cause and arrested Chacon on suspicion of 25 counts of sexual assault on a child, position of trust/pattern of abuse. The sheriff’s office is urging anyone who has additional information in this case and has not spoken to a detective to come forward and contact Detective Jeremy Mclaughlan at (970) 400-5816. No further information will be released today. All charges are merely accusations until, and unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Beware: the newest text scam and how to spot it Our followers are always looking out for one another. This weekend, a couple of our followers messaged WCSO about a new text scam making the rounds — and we agree it’s worth warning everyone about. The scam goes like this: the potential victim receives an official-looking text that tells them they have an outstanding parking/toll violation they must pay to prevent legal and administrative consequences. A QR code is on the notice to pay the alleged fine. How to spot this fake: •A misspelling is on the seal of Colorado at the top. •There is no personal identifying information on this notice identifying a car, plate, vehicle owner, or a location where the violation allegedly took place. •The address provided at the bottom is fake. •The courts will not contact you via text message demanding payment. If you receive a notification like this and you are not sure if it is real, verify it by calling the court’s official phone number found on their official website. Do not call the number in the text or scan the QR code. If you have fallen victim to this scam, please contact your local law enforcement to report it. You can also make a report with the Federal Trade Commission at, reportfraud.ftc.gov. #staysafeweldcounty

WCSO Media Release WCSO deputies arrest man on suspicion of indecent exposure On March 8, 2026 patrol responded to a traffic complaint around mile marker 48 on Interstate 76 around Keenesburg. The reporter advised the suspect, a male driver, was unclothed and allegedly masturbating while driving. The reporter said the suspect was supposedly, purposefully matching his vehicle speed; when the reporter slowed down, so would the suspect. A Keenesburg police officer stopped a car at mile marker 38 and Interstate 76 (westbound) that matched the suspect’s vehicle description and identified the driver as 35-year-old, Omar Rodriguez. During their investigation, WCSO deputies discovered five other separate calls for service dating back to Nov. 18, 2025. The call descriptions were similar in nature to this event, around the same general area, and mostly described a similar vehicle description of the car Rodriguez was stopped in. Rodriguez was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure (six counts). Rodriguez was released from the Weld County Jail on March 9, on a $7,500.00 cash/surety bond. If you have any information about this case, and you have not reported it, please contact your local law enforcement or the Weld County Sheriff's Office at (970) 350-9600 or call our tip line at (970) 304-6464 or email your tip to Crimetips@Weld.gov . All charges are merely accusations, and a defendant is presumed innocent until, or unless proven guilty in a court of law. ###

***WCSO Media Release*** Deputies’ Well-Being Check Leads to DUI and Drug Arrest Yesterday, around 5:30 A.M. Weld County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies were called to the 15800 block of Casler Ave, in the Aristocrat Ranchettes for a check on the well-being. The reporter said a man in a pickup truck was sitting in the intersection, slumped over the wheel for several minutes. A patrol deputy arrived and found the truck along with one male occupant who was later identified as 19-year-old, D’Andrae Chavoya-Hernandez. Chavoya-Hernandez was in the driver’s seat of the truck sleeping, with the vehicle running, and the window rolled down. The deputy noticed smoke was coming from the vehicle hood and attempted to remove the keys from the ignition. Chavoya-Hernandez woke up, and while interacting with him the deputy suspected he was intoxicated. Prior to investigating Chavoya-Hernandez for driving under the influence (DUI), Chavoya-Hernandez allowed the deputy to pat him down. The deputy saw and recovered a marijuana tube, and a plastic baggie. The deputy did a more thorough search of Chavoya-Hernandez and discovered a large amount of cash, and two small baggies with a white powdery substance which later tested presumptive positive for cocaine. The deputy also recovered a bag that had several small 1”x1” baggies in it. A DUI investigation was conducted, and the deputy determined there was probable cause to arrest Chavoya-Hernandez. The truck Chavoya-Hernandez was in allegedly did not have a valid registration and since the vehicle was stopped in the middle of the road, it created a traffic hazard. Before the vehicle was towed, deputies also recovered a firearm with no serial number. Chavoya-Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of the following charges: •Drove Vehicle While Under the Influence •Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute •Possess Firearm Without Serial Number •Controlled Substance Special Offender-Deadly Weapon •Failed to Display Valid Registration The sheriff’s office encourages community members to report any concerning activity to local law enforcement. We are grateful for calls like this, which help us keep Weld County safe. All charges are merely accusations, and a defendant is presumed innocent until, or unless proven guilty in a court of law. #StaySafeWeldCounty

Lisa Carpenter bestowed the Sam Brownlee Service Above Self award WCSO is proud to announce Lisa Carpenter is our most recent recipient of the Sam Brownlee Service Above Self Award! Lisa has been an employee with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office since May16, 2005. During her time at the sheriff’s office Lisa has held the positions of patrol deputy, firearms instructor, and school resource officer, and she currently serves as a civil unit technician. Lisa was invaluable as a school resource officer. When she was no longer able to perform the duties of deputy, the school she served was broken-hearted. Lisa served the school and the students so well that they notified the sheriff’s office administration her absence there was extremely impactful. Lisa’s has also served the Weld County community through her ongoing efforts and success with Weld Elves. In 2025, more than 1900 children were helped and over 650 families were served. Lisa puts a tremendous amount of effort into this, and most of it is on her own personal time. She seeks no reward for her efforts, and when Lisa was told about her nomination for this award, her immediate response was, “…that’s not why I do it…” Lisa never quits. Even though she may be presented with a situation that would likely cause another person to leave the sheriff’s office, she endures and this is one of the characteristics that exemplifies the Sam Brownlee Service Above Self award. Although Lisa cannot perform the duties of deputy, she continues to serve the Weld County community at the civil desk. She is even a member of the WCSO reserve unit where she can continue to apply her skills as a deputy on a volunteer basis. Please join us as we celebrate Lisa for this well deserved honor.
