#OnThisDay 40 years ago IBM station serving its factory on the Wemyss Bay branch became publicly advertised (the only purely acronym station name?) Since 2018 (last day pictured; Felix Alexander) it has had no service despite being ‘open’, one of several stations in similar limbo

Today sees the introduction of 20mph speed limits across Inverclyde, despite 94% being opposed to them. Stuart McMillan, if elected, will you fight to put roads back to 30mph and end the national strategy of 20mph speed limits across Scotland? 🚗 @StuMcMillanSNP

Wemyss Bay Train Station, Inverclyde, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Built in 1903 right on the Firth of Clyde, the Wemyss Bay Train Station has a beautiful and scenic feel with the stunning Victorian building and huge glass roof that floods the whole place with light. The old ironwork that sits overhead and the platform views over the water make it stand out straight away. It won the UK's Best Loved Station award back in 2023 and just picked up Small Station of the Year at the 2024 National Rail Awards. You can see exactly why once you're there - it's got real character and a lovely welcoming atmosphere. The station sits next to the ferry terminal for the Isle of Bute, so you get the trains and boats all in one spot with brilliant views across the firth. It's easy to stop off and have a wander or just sit and take in the scenery in one of Scotlands most beautiful train stations.
