@advitwake First Man & La La Land are as good as Whiplash. In fact they are all similar quality in various respects.

@Jonetorto @hadrianmarlowe_ Yeah but still a crazy run.
This Antonioni 5 run was great ⬇️
Italian directors in 1940’s-1970s were just incredible (Fellini, Antonioni, De Sica, Visconti, Pasolini & Rossellini)

English

@WergildBlake @hadrianmarlowe_ Shoot, I totally forgot about Il Bidone.

@TheCineprism EEAAO beat Banshees of Inisherin & Tar
Belfast beat Worst Person in the World
Green Book beat The Favourite, First Reformed & Roma

@Inver22_ @hadrianmarlowe_ A great run, only reason I didn’t include it is because Porco Rosso & Howls are not my favourites.
Mononoke is in my all time favourite animations, Spirited Away & Neighbour Totoro are amazing, then Castle in the Sky, Wind Rises & Nausicaa next. Miyazaki is incredibly consistent
English

@WergildBlake @hadrianmarlowe_ I would like to add another incredible run, totally comparable with the other one you said (In my opinion):

English

@Jonetorto @hadrianmarlowe_ I looked this up, but he did “il Bidone” inbetween La Strada & Cabiria!
Still insane run (& I Vitelloni before La Strada)

English

@WergildBlake @hadrianmarlowe_ Fellini with La Strada, Notti di Cabiria, Dolce Vita and 8 1/2
Italiano

@brndxix Von Trier is the context
It’s an interesting film: dead serial killer & architect who was obsessed but never satisfied with his creations (artistic pursuit of perfection) is guided by Virgil through hell.
But Lars *loves* to shock & enrage his audience = this scene & others.

@letterbub I Walked with a Zombie (1943)
Directed by Jacques Tourneur
Director of my all time favourite film noir Out of the Past (1947)
Gothic haunting melancholic surreal Jane Eyre-esque melodrama with Voodoo, plantation slavery & drums.
69 minute runtime!
On BBC iPlayer for 🇬🇧 viewers

@REALRICHLAKE @hadrianmarlowe_ I mean they’re not. They’re very good, especially technically & great blockbusters.
But their pacing is uneven & strange, not Denis fault as he’s trying to set up the 2nd film for the last 1/3 of runtime in part 1. And in part 2 he has to get through a tonne of source material.
English

@LunareProd13 @BadFilmTakes1 That Coppola run is only 4 not 5.
Wish he’d skipped his next two & done Rumblefish because that’s a hell of a 5 film run.
Disagree on Serious Man, it’s much better than Burn After Reading & True Grit. Coen’s don’t have a 5 run for me, this is closest but Hudsucker isn’t amazing

English

@BadFilmTakes1 Showgirls and A Serious Man throw off the runs for me. For me it’s Coppola with Godfather, The Conversation, Godfather Part II, and Apocalypse Now.
English

@OForfang @BadFilmTakes1 One of my least favourite PTA’s, loved it when I was a teen, but it’s too operatic & coke fuelled for me now
It’s still good & totally singular in his filmography (& one of his most accessible films) but personally speaking I’m glad he got it out his system & moved on.
English

@OForfang @BadFilmTakes1 Punch Drunk Love - Phantom Thread
5 film run is better imo.
English

@VashKohime “Post-Dark Knight Rises”
Dark Knight Rises is dreadful also.
English

as someone who was the perfect age to consider him my generation's Great Movie Star his post-DARK KNIGHT RISES run of projects has been nothing short of calamitous. I can only assume working with David O Russell gave him the acting equivalent of CTE and he's just never recovered.

I like Christian Bale fine but idk man lol I don’t see him over Leo at all. Maybe I’m not watching the right stuff though

I’ve spent the past weeks talking to #ME patients and carers in Wales.
There is a spectrum of severity, but there are thousands in dark rooms across the country, unable to walk or talk.
Tomos is one of them.

intrigued by what is actually meant to be a buzzword here because if you're mad about someone referring to comolli and narboni that's one of the most famous pieces of film theory ever written lmao
ares@goslinq
this being his phm review by the way. just buzzword after buzzword
