Even in winter, state forestry agencies are thinking about wildfire. 🔥 That's because snowpack can shape landscapes into spring and summer. Healthy forests can help increase snowpack and are less vulnerable to fire.

It’s Invasive Species Week, and today we are highlighting Stinknet, one of the invasive weeds taking over Arizona roadsides and backyards. Why is it a problem? 1. Fire Hazard: It dries into highly flammable tinder that fuels wildfires. 2. Outcompetes Natives: It chokes out beautiful desert wildflowers, such as Arizona Poppies. 3. Health Risk: Can cause skin rashes and respiratory issues. Can you spot it? Flowers: Small, yellow, globes. Leaves: Carrot-like. Scent: A strong, chemical, turpentine-like smell. If you find Stinknet on your property, pull it from the root, and always place the plants in a sealed trash bag to prevent seed dispersal! For more information, or to report stinknet, visit stinknet.org #AZForestry #Stinknet #InvasiveSpecies #NISAW

It's #NISAW. State forestry agencies are among the many partners that help manage invasive species. In 2024, more than 22,000 acres across the West were treated for pests, diseases, or invasive plants to support healthy & resilient forests. Learn more at westernforesters.org/sites/default/…
