@pattonoswalt Rented this from our local video store (Captain Video) when I was in high school (1988-89ish). I didn’t understand it and was disappointed. On your recommendation, I will revisit it.

Re-watched this one last year and yeah, this needs some serious re-consideration. The first 10 minutes is such top-shelf filmmaking and the ending is a whopper.

@maksimologija @ADNockNock Are you a native Russian speaker or did you learn it as a second language? Did you set out to learn CS? I only ask because your ability to see the similarities could be an artifact of studying both languages. That’s not the experience of native speakers.

@Sevynn3970 @JosiahTMcElroy No worries. The division has been there for some time but granting autocephaly definitely turned up the heat. I have to admit that my knowledge of the details is limited but as I recall Bartholomew waded into it reluctantly to offer an end to the conflict. A gross misjudgment.

@collincornell1 True that. For the record, I strongly disagree with the take in the screen shot on your OP. I am against any thought that begins with, “The whole Bible could be portrayed…” Reductivism in scripture makes me twitchy.

@collincornell1 For me, they read more like tough lessons God is learning about how his creatures behave when left to their own devices.

@collincornell1 I don’t know. The textual history of the Bible depicts a fairly haphazard ( to say nothing of eclectic) construction. I struggle with seeing a the fall, Babel, the flood, and the creation of Israel as premeditated. They read like attempts by God to keep his creation together. ~>

@profsamperry I’d be interested in that data as well. Anecdotally, my 86 y/o mother has been an Evangelical her whole life. Devoutly so. She made a comment one time about the term “Evangelical” being a political party. It was in passing so I didn’t explore it but it made me want to know more.
