@BreannaMorello WhatsApp cannot access people’s encrypted communications and any suggestion to the contrary is false.

🚨LAWSUIT FILED🚨
TX AG Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against Meta Platforms and WhatsApp for misleading consumers about the privacy protections of the WhatsApp messaging app.
WhatsApp is widely advertised as a secure service that uses end-to-end encryption, meaning only the sender and recipient can read the messages — not even WhatsApp itself.
Millions of people trusted these claims and believed their chats were completely private.
However, investigations have revealed these claims are not true.
Reports show that WhatsApp employees can access user messages, and message content can be viewed even after it has been sent.
Paxton says this is a serious misrepresentation of the app’s privacy policies.

this is correct. your status privacy hasn’t changed - if it’s set to be visible only to your contacts, they’re the only ones who can see it.
we’re running a small test with a limited group of users where you may see someone’s status if you interacted with them on WhatsApp recently and they saved you in their contacts, even if you haven’t saved them.
English

@Letter_to_Jack you’re likely seeing this person’s status because they have you saved as a contact, and we’re running a small test of this feature with a limited group of users.
your status privacy hasn’t changed - people you haven’t saved as a contact cannot see your status.
