@FrostSplinter "It's fine. I don't feel particularly uncomfortable... thank you, Ms. Gerda."
English

@Wheel0fFate Gerda is quiet for a minute as she finishes wrapping the bandage and tying it.
'... Tell me if this is too tight.'
English

@Wheel0fFate
[A few years ago. A city in K Corp, massacred and occupied by the Inquisition.]
They tripled Zaya's dose of canned sludge for weeks before sending her here, and beat it into her every day: these people are the aggressors. They're just like the Kurokumo clan back >>
English

@FrostSplinter She just shakes her head... the only people she could call family died in that raid, but she doesn't really want to talk about her now dead adoptive mothers right now.
English

@Wheel0fFate >> if Briar doesn't want to talk about it with people she just met.
English

@FrostSplinter "It was a while ago... I was scrounging for food, and someone else wanted what I had. When I refused, they pulled out something sharp... maybe a knife, and cut it across my eyes. I don't remember much after that, until K-Corp took me."
English

@Wheel0fFate Gerda finishes cleaning her eye socket, and starts applying antibiotic ointment.
'Ampoules? But your eye didn't grow back. How...how did you lose it, if I may ask?'
English

@FrostSplinter Her face muscles tighten slightly with a repressed wince as Gerda cleans around Briar's eye socket. It's still a little tender, but not overly painful.
"... they did more than that. But... Zay- er... Kai, used this shot with green stuff on it that healed all of that."
English

@Wheel0fFate Gerda helps her unwrap the bandage, then starts cleaning around the eye socket with a wet cloth. She frowns, concerned.
'Those Inquisition bastards,' she says softly. 'Taking a child's eye. Monsters.'
English

@FrostSplinter "Mhm. It's kinda itchy, so a new banage would be nice."
She starts unwrapping the current one. There's a bit of dried blood once she gets to the last few layers, her crying probably aggravated her injury.
English

@Wheel0fFate 'My apologies again for being thoughtless. Is it okay if I change your bandage first? I don't want to mess up your clean clothes.'
She takes out a first aid kit.
English

@FrostSplinter She clutches the clothes close to her chest to avoid dropping them as she's pulled back to her room. She notes that they're a bit big, but she's worn more ill fitting clothes than this, so she'll be fine!
English

@Wheel0fFate 'I see. Alright, back in your room. This won't take long.'
She stands, and notices a change of clean clothes that Loukia left on a table. She takes the clothes, takes Briar's hand with her free hand, and pulls her back into the room.
English

@FrostSplinter "Hm... I don't think I've changed my bandages since I got them... they're kinda itchy."
She fell asleep with these bandages on, and cried into them with her covered eye, so they probably aren't very comfortable at the moment.
English

@Wheel0fFate Gerda looks at her for a moment, then blinks. She kneels down and looks at Briar's bandage.
'Ah. Forgive me. When was the last time Loukia changed this? How does it feel?'
English

@FrostSplinter Briar doesn't really have anything to change into, and it's hard to look presentable in her current state, given the missing eye and all, so she just follows Gerda out of her room.
English

@Wheel0fFate She smiles.
'I hope it's okay that we just have berry jam for toppings. If you need a minute to get presentable, I'll be right outside.'
And she goes through the curtain and leaves the room, waiting for Briar to follow.
English

@FrostSplinter "Oh, my mom's made pancakes, so those sound good to me."
English

@Wheel0fFate 'Alright.'
Gerda steps towards the doorway.
'We should hurry, before it's all gone. How do you feel about pancakes?'
English

@FrostSplinter "... I should probably eat."
She doesn't really want to, but starving to death doesn't sound appealing either.
English

@Wheel0fFate Gerda nods. An awkward pause, as a wave of grief and anger washes through her. She tries not to let it show on her face, and smiles.
'Do...you want to come out for breakfast? And I can give you the tour later, if you like.'
English

@FrostSplinter "... okay, Ms. Gerda."
She suspects there's another reason for that, but won't say anything.
English

@Wheel0fFate Gerda gives Briar an odd, pained look.
'Unfortunately I won't be there. Hunting duty.'
English

@FrostSplinter "... I... I'll join... I owe Zaya... er... Kai, that much..."
English

@Wheel0fFate Gerda nods. She can only imagine why Briar would have a habit of waking at light noises. She decides not to pry.
'They're...having a memorial for Kai this evening. You're welcome to attend. If you want to.'
English

@FrostSplinter "It's fine... it's an old habit of mine, you had no way of knowing..."
She's also a little quiet and awkward... she sits upright, stretching her arms over her head.
English

@Wheel0fFate Gerda pauses, then turns to face the child. She's quiet and a little awkward.
"Briar. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you."
English

@FrostSplinter Briar does wake up as the cup lightly touches the surface. Her adoptive mothers would often leave something to eat or drink at her bedside in the morning, so she eventually learned to wake up when she heard something was placed down.
"...morning, Ms. Gerda...
English

@Wheel0fFate Loukia and the others let Briar sleep in. Loukia peeks in a few more times during the night. And eventually it must be morning, because Gerda comes in to bring her a fresh cup of tea. She sets it quietly down on the nightstand, but tries not to wake her.
English

@FrostSplinter "... this is /my/ room. I should be asking /you/ that."
She tries to sound assertive, but her voice is a tad squeaky.
English

@Wheel0fFate "What...are you............doing here."
Her delivery is completely blank. Just standing there, staring.
English

@FrostSplinter Eventually, Briar cries herself to sleep, allowing her some respite from the emotional anguish she's currently in.
English

@Wheel0fFate After a moment, Loukia lets go, and pulls the covers up snugly over Briar's shoulders. She doesn't want to speak, either. There's too much pain for words.
So, she kisses the child's forehead, and quietly leaves, stifling her sobs until she gets to her own room.
English

@FrostSplinter Briar doesn't acknowledge Loukia, but the silent sobbing doesn't stop... she does appreciate what Loukia is doing, but doesn't want to speak about it, either.
English

@Wheel0fFate Loukia pads over to the bed, carefully leaning over and wrapping her arms around Briar. She can pretend to be asleep if she wants to.
English

@FrostSplinter She's shaking gently on her bed, as if silently sobbing, but that might be hard to make out in the dark
English

@Wheel0fFate ...... After a while, Loukia will peek in on her, very quietly in case she's asleep.
English

@FrostSplinter -- deja vu creep into Briar's mind... she certainly knows Zaya from somewhere, but not from anywhere at the same time...
She decides to forgo the drink of water and scurries off back to her room, bitter tears streaking down her face.
English

@FrostSplinter She had to cover her mouth to stifle a shocked gasp.
Zaya blew herself up?! Why would she do such a reckless, idiotic thing... is what she wants to thing, but... despite barely knowing the woman, that sounds remarkably in character for her... more of those strange feelings of --
